Hi there. New to the forum and very glad it exists! I recently picked one up an L170 here in southern California. 1069 hours on the meter. "Ran when parked" but not running now. Compression is very low at around 150. I have some questions and could really use a service manual. These are so rare here that answers and materials are hard to come by. I have read all threads pertaining to the L170 and L140 but still don't find what I am looking for. Anybody with a manual or experience with these, I could really use some guidance. Thank you!

I guess the first thing you need is some compression to get it running. Depending on how long it was sitting the rings may be stuck. You could try a little oil in each cylinder and turning the engine over to spread it. That MAY improve your compression. At the very least it will lubricate the dry cylinder walls.

Thanks for the response Roadworthy. Yes I put a couple shots of oil in the piston chamber (its a single cylinder E800 engine) and rechecked compression. If rings are bad the oil should up the compression a little bit. It didn't so I think the compression issue may be more valve related or a combination of both valves and rings. A service manual and parts manual sure would be nice.

Sadly you probably won't find a WSM or Parts manual for this, they just don't exist for these.
Read this thread for some good info.

Hi there and thanks for the reply. I read it and every other reference to the L170 and L140 I could find. I also direct messaged every member in those threads who mentioned having an L170 or L140. So far no responses. I'll keep trying. Somebody knows this machine or at least knows the E800 diesel engine.
