l1501 camshaft plug issue

Hi, i'm new to the site. My father in law just gave me an l1501. It had wiring and oil pressure issues. Fixed the wiring, and traced the oil pressure issue to the cam shaft plugs. Fixing to tackle that issue next weekend. I have a couple of questions before i get started.
Is the nut on the crank shaft a standard or reverse thread?
Can i remove the cam shaft with out having to pull the head?
Any information would greatly be appreciated thanks
