I have a Kubota L 235 that is difficult to steer. It has a manual steering gearbox that seems to work fine. When I jack the front wheels up and shake things the whole front end is slipping back and forth 1/2 inch or more on the pivot pin. Is this my problem and how can I correct it?

Don't think it has anything to do with hard steering, but you'll need to drop the front axle and if lucky just replace the bushings.

To get easier steering:

Make sue all linkage joints move freely.

Do you have a loader on it?
and if so
Do you have a ballast box on it?

You can add an aftermarket Power assist unit, here is one:

Steering is much easier if the front tires are fully inflated. Usually thirty pounds is about right.

It does have a loader no ballast box but does usually have a rear implement as well. Any advise on fixing the slope the front end moves straight forward and straight back? Is that a bushing or what causes this? Can it be shimmed to fix? I have never saw one apart. Any advice appreciated.

The point the WolfMan was trying to make is: weight behind the rear axle (the more and the further back, the better) actually takes weight off the front axle, making steering easier.

The front to back slop is most likely wear in thrust collars #14, #15.
You'll also need to check wear in #19, and #20

That tractor wasn't made to handle a loader, you are putting a lot of stress on the front end. Manual steering with a loader will be difficult on YOU unless you are rolling. You really need high load capable front tires fully inflated. R4's will be better than turfs.
