Can you guys give some more help with recommendations for a Kubota 4x4 between 40 and 50 hp. I really like the 4060 and I looked at the mx 5100 but I struck out on both. Is there any other Kubota the you would recommend between 40 to 50 horse power. Looking back I think the mx 5100 is bit too large for me.

Yes I own a old 1955 Ford 860 and a 1948 8n. Neither have a loader. As you can imagine I work on them 50% of the time. I'm needing a loader tractor to clear brush, two bottom plowing, bush hogging and moving 8" to 10" rock.

You might not need to go with such a large HP tractor to do that, I had a 53 ford jubilee - it had something like 23 Hp - the bx I have has the same, and sure I could use more HP - but the little bx does things the 53 could only dream of !

I would look at a B or L , a M would be a little over the top.

Those fords were gassers, I think you'll find the diesel will be so much more usable power when plowing or FEL work.

just my 3 cents;):)

Sounds like you have some acreage to manage based on the fact you were considering an MX5100 and an L4060.

You can find some nice tractors that are 3-7 years old, with few hours (for a diesel engine) and good maintenance history at very reasonable prices. This vintage of tractor keeps you out of the EPA's new engine guidelines.

The tractor prior to the L4060 was the L3940. Look up the specs. on TractorData.com. Or consider the L4240. You can find these models used with <600 hours under $20K easily.

for what it sounds like you are going to be doing, L2501. or a B series. 25 hp should be more than enough to do what you want. how much do you need to brush hog?

Look at the new L4701, it is a real improvement over the old Standard L and not as big as the MX.

Are you keeping your 861, love those old things and two tractors come in handy.

Well I even surprised myself. I went with a larger tractor and bought a new MX4800. As soon as I drove it I had my answer. I was apprehensive with its size when looking at it but as soon as I drove it everything changed. I have been driving that Ford 860 for years and this thing runs circles around it. I am very pleased!!!

Congratulations on your new tractor, the MX is essentially the old L30, a good, heavy, proven tractor. And as we all know, tractors shrink when we get them home.

See if you can get the 3 pt system that comes on the MX5200 and MX5800. The extendable links and telescoping stabilizers were the biggest factors in me getting the MX5200 over the MX4800. I don't use the extendable links anymore since I've installed Pat's quick hitches but the telescoping stabilizers are awesome.

Congrats on the purchase. I have an MX4800 that I bought new in mid-2015 and could not be happier. It does everything I need on my place. Mowing, plowing, grading mostly.

I am approaching 90 hours and only had 1 regen so far, and if the light would not have come on, I would have missed it. Non-event. Most of my work is at PTO speed and I try not to idle much, so regens are further apart.

If you do a lot of mowing in dusty conditions, do keep an eye on temp gauge. Once the screen starts getting clogged, the temps move up quickly. Last summer I was mowing some tall stuff and noticed the gauge was starting to creep up, and since I was almost done thought I would make the last pass. Within 5 minutes the light came on and got a beep. Not a big deal, but just surprised me how fast needle had moved from 1/2 to 3/4.

Something you don't have to worry about on 5100.

Lots of info on site, but process that many tier iv tractors go through to burn soot out of DPF to meet EPA emissions mandates.
