I guess it depends if you can work it, it looks like a good price and around here it would be in the high 20s for it. I would try and negotiate a little, but I can tell you it will be super handy with the hoe and you will be popular with your friends and neighbors. You can even have a side hustle digging or trenching, So decision is all yours in the end but it will hold value and if you can afford it I say go for it.

$17,000 would be my price, but I think $23.5k is close for it. Check www.Tractorhouse.com to get some ideas what folks are trying to get for one.

Looks like it was a utility (electric/gas/telecomm/water/sewer) machine used by a municipality? Not deep/heavy digging usually. Note the narrow bucket for pipe/cable installation, although would be just water/sewer laterals with that bucket. But, still <6 feet deep typical.

Pros:

2012 - pre-Tier IV emissions stuff.

2012 - not very old. With 2,300 hours over 5 years, it's been used regularly.

Just guessing there's quite a bit of idling time built into that 2,300 hours. (Especially if were a municipal machine:rolleyes:)

Doesn't look like it's been beat. See item above!

Cons:

It looks like its always lived outside. Sun damage can be a problem for tires and hoses. Not sure a big issue in the Northwest over 5 years?

Summary:

Deal-breaker for me would be maintenance history. Looks like the bucket trucks in the background are older. Tells me they maintain stuff to get all the useful-life as possible, of that's part of the municipal fleet.

Could be different.......sometimes they'll beat it until it quits, but most guys understand that's not cost-effective.....but given it was a municipality...lord knows how it went....

I'd call the number posted in the link. Get a hold of the person who did the maintenance on it for the municipality. Find out the "inside story", service, why selling, what's good about it, what would they like to change about it, etc. Ask him if he was looking for a machine like that, would he buy it? Why, Why not? Then decide.

Check wear on all pins, normally I would expect a municipality machine would have grease oozing out of every orifice. 500 hours per year, 10 hours per week, and as noted, lots of idle time generally......

Thanks everybody, very nice of you to chime in. All great points. Im really a novice so this has been very helpful. I will give them a call and talk to the maintenance guy. I was hoping to get it for about 18 K.

That's a commercial Kubota, l48, l35, and such are made a little differently than the standard L's they usually take abuse and use better, and they normally have a longer life span.
It doesn't look like a bad deal.
