A non linear speedometer scale? That’s probably just a screw up.

We're all 'metric' here in Canada, EXCEPT when the cops are asking us to find bad guys. They ALWAYS say 'perp is 6 FOOT two INCHES, weighs 210 POUNDS..

just reread the scale numbers. 20,40, 60........to the max.

I was going to post in 'chuckles' BUT this is REAL !!
Good news is friend finally saw this before getting $$$$ speeding fines/loss of points and $$$$$$ insurance increases. He thought he was doing 115 ,actually 130.....on 100 KmH highways.
we can go 10 over ,no problem... 15 over, is kinda 'ok', but NOT 30 over ....

I’m just curious: is it actually non-linear and numbers correct? As in if it reads 140 are you going 120 or actually going 140?

That's a very strange idea for sure.
Doesn't the center read out as well? It says zero in your pic but should read 130 at 130 even though the analog scale changes at 100.

"The medium is the message"

It's a car and you can't legally drive faster than 100kph in Ontario.

The other numbers are there to make you feel like you drive a fast car. Kind of like painting flames on the side of your car, putting on big back wheels, or using a loud exhaust.

Also millennials can't read analog gauges or clocks so it's good enough.

There are several places in Ontario with 110 limits.
Typically, manufacturers make the speedo read out to way faster than necessary in order to make you think you have a fast car.
This split scale is a new thing, and not very smart.

Niece failed her driver's test as she did not 'keep up with traffic' ( all were doing 110-115), though posted at 100 . Apparently if 'everyone' is doing 130 THAT is OK ???

Brother 'politely ripped' the MTO examiner and she got her license 1/2hr later....

I'm old enough to drive by the POINTER not the center readout, odds are good that most here do that ???

Frankly, if I saw that gauge on my potential new ride, I would NOT buy that vehicle.

BTW, the numbers are accurate, do 140, red needle is at 140. The problem is the 'jump' in dial numbers.

YES, it's an AUDI S5. Friend actually got vertical, so can do some things......
Apparently you can set a 'too fast' beeper and it KNOWS the roadway speed limits !! That's probably tied into the GPS system, something I presented to the RR after THREE of their 'engineers' killed themselves 14 miles from me...

Cool non-lineal
Probably matches the gas gauge and maybe even the throttle. I understand the degas gauge, that’s just sloppiness and crappy work, but non linear throttle response is purposeful (and just dumb) in a drive by wire world.

I have a couple modern cars that take about 1/2 throttle pedal movement to get 1/4 of the throttle response.

Doesn’t look non linear to me. Looks bi-linear. Linear up to 100, then linear at a different rate above 100.

I can only guess the engineer was a bi-something fella…😉

You do know that bi-linear is a subset of non-linear? Indeed, you did find the inflection point.
