Hydraulic leak at 4wd shift L3940HSTC

Hey folks,

This forum is great and has helped me a lot in the past. Thank you all.

I have a small hydraulic fluid leak where the 4WD shift comes out of the transmission case on my Kubota L3940 HSTC. I confirmed it was coming from this location by tying a rag at that joint. From the parts diagram it shows 2 Orings and a stopper plate.

Just wondering if anyone else experienced something similar and how to repair.

Can the orings be replaced from the outside, I.e. Without gaining access to the inside of the transmission?


Any help would be appreciated.

It is very common, we had the same issue on our L3901. Removed the shift lever from the shaft and replaced metal plate retainer holding the o rings in, it was a $4 part

Thanks for your reply. That's what I was hoping the fix would be. I had the part on order anyway but wasn't sure if it would fix it.

Hey folks,

I am still living with this leak. I tried and tried to get the rolled pin out to replace the stopper plate but the pin has not moved at all.

Even bought rolled pin punches and still no luck. Any ideas on the best way to get this out?

1: Air hammer with a punch tool

2: Roll pin remover tool

3: C clamp altered to press the in out, I've seen a better version that the fixed end was slotted for the pin to come out and the crew side had the cup taken off and a point and stem ground onto the end to push the pin out.
