My other issue with my filter change on my L3800 HST was the right side hydraulic filter, the one with magnet in it. As soon as I loosened it, the fluid poured out, I waited for it to slow for like 30 seconds , then I realized it wasn't going to. So I filled the new filter with fluid, screwed off the old one quickly, screwed on the new one quickly. I figured I lost 1 1/2 gallons of the transmission fluid.
So how do other change this without loosing so much fluid ?

I just posted the same question about a bx's hyd. filter. I had a JD 110tlb do the same exact thing you just had happen to you. I sat there and watched as all the oil poured out of the drive......almost 4 gallon to be exact while trying to get the new filter on. Had I known then what I know now, I would have worn scuba gear to change it. And at 75.00 for 5 gallon, it was a lesson well learned.

In your case, I would think that if you are past the break in piriod, that the filter only needs to be changed when changing the hyd, fluid. Thats the only wasy I could think this would work without the oil bath part.....

That's "normal". It sucks, but that's how it is. Try changing them on the bigger M series, usually lose about 3-4 gallons, if you're fast

I changed my fluid and filters at the same time, 22 gallons @$202.80 per 5 gal bucket.

So my M9000 takes about $900 in fluid and the last filters I got were $110 so call it a 1K tranny service. And you BX guys think you've got it bad.

Out of curiosity, what did you put in it, that it cost so much

When I changed the filter on my L3200, I used the vacuum cleaner method. Spillage was almost nothing.

Amsoil, but those are list prices which are closer to what I paid when the oil was changed. I didn't want to break it down to the penny, just a general figure.

Now that I have learned a few tricks I get a better deal. I have never figured it so this even surprises me, now 22 gallons cost about $500. So in real numbers it's not much higher than SUDT2.

Please explain. Already bought the scuba gear, so maybe I can sell it...?:D
A trick I read about either here or another board. A shop vac on the fill hole keeps the oil from flowing out of the filter connection. Worked great.
