Didn't know where to stick this so if the mods wish to move it fine. As you probably know by now I just bought a new kubota L3800 and have a few cans around filled with diesel from the old JD 2305. That particular machine sits lower to the ground so it was no real problem to just pour the diesel and go on my way. The L3800 sits a bit higher and may pose a bit of a challenge getting fuel into the tank. So how do you fill up your tank with fuel?. 5 gallon cans, storage tank set up with hand pump, or something else?. As always your comments and or suggestions are greatly welcomed. Frank

Hello Frank , I have the same tractor and I asked the same question of a customer of mine who has a Kubota . He told me to get a big funnel and three 5 gallon gas cans and a sturdy milk crate. Only fill the cans with 3 gallons of diesel each. Then stand on the milk crate and pour slowly into the funnel. By not having the can full, you don't spill it and its a lot easier to handle. AND Frank the 3800 is a 'fuel sipper' , it uses very little so you won't be fueling up to often.

I just restored 3 fuel jugs with ez pour kits and I didnt use the included extensions on 2 of them so on my diesel jug I used the 2 extra ones.
Having a almost 3 foot long hose on that jug looks kind of strange but for filling the tractor with the fuel fill in the middle of the hood it really works great, I can set the can up on the loader arm and put the nozzle in the tank before tipping the can. No more funnel needed.

If you have the room like the big kahuna said a 55 gallon drum with a crank type pump works pretty well, the pump you can get from like harbor freight or even TS or you can find a 12volt pump, anyway you do it if you have a large quantity stored for a long time a fuel stabilizer is a good thing as well and a anti algae additive. Just MHO

5 gallons at a time in a safety can, funnel in the tank, then I stand on the front tire and pour the fuel in. Probably not the best advise but it works for me.
5 gallon 'No-Spill' brand cans, filled with 5 gallons of diesel. Never spill a drop and don't need a funnel. 
Just so happens I have a 55 gallon gas drum sitting in the shed from hell (my wife says she will never go in there. and a hand pump. Get me a new 55 gallon cane and am all set. don't even want to know whats in the bottom of the old gas drum. Pump still works just needs a longer hose. Thanks Frank

Yes, they are fuel sippers. I buy fuel in small amounts and fuel using one of those large red funnels with a big mouth on it. Carquest had them. The large funnel makes it easy to pour in the fuel which I do from a 2 gal container which I fill from a 5 gallon. If toward the bottom of the 5 gallon, I use it but you will find that this tractor will run a long time on 2 or 3 gallons.
The tank is fairly small on these tractors as well, so you won't need to store much fuel. I figure this was, I maintain fresher fuel here.
At first, I tried the "tire" method and ended up spilling some. Also, I used a self made funnel from a 1 gallon plastic jug with the bottom cut out larger but it tended to move around enough to cause some spillage. The only good solution I found for a funnel was the big red one. No more spills.

Never spill a drop, your good, I use a newer metal safety can and no matter how hard I try I usually have some that will chug and spill on the hood.5 gallon 'No-Spill' brand cans, filled with 5 gallons of diesel. Never spill a drop and don't need a funnel.
Guess I better look into one of those "no-spill" cans myself.
I'll have to look into one of those, I don't recall seeing them at any of our local farm stores, Rural King. Kind of tired of spilling fuel on my freshly waxed hood. It cant be good for the paint...
My local small hardware store has them, price around $25-28 or so. The cheap cans are around $13-$15 and are worthless!
The L3800 is a pain to fill, but these cans work much better than all my old cans.
I also have a 1.25 gal No-Spill for my chainsaw mix and I even like it better!
