I have a 2019 BX23S and had a hole develop in the transmission case. Tractor was sent to Kubota shop in Washington NC. I was told by the shop that the hole was due to overuse of the differential pedal and that this caused the transmission to break and parts created the hole. They also said that this would not be covered under my 6 year power train warranty because that’s my fault. Also told me they could fix it for $9,600.00. Has anyone else had a transmission grenade and Kubota did not fix under warranty?

have you tried to get a second opinion from a different dealer? It might be worth a shot. In years past when I did kubota work, in cases like that I'd send it off to Kubota and let them make the decision. The process works, but the dealer has to WANT to take care of you.

For a long, long time warranty jobs didn't pay squat and for that reason techs didn't want to do them. Some guys still don't want to do them but there is money to be made if they know how and are properly certified.

I came to NC this weekend to pick it up and take it back to my local dealer in Delaware. I originally left it down in NC because that’s where the damage occurred and I would have needed it again in NC a few weeks later. Hopefully they see what I see.

Also told me they could fix it for $9,600.00.
The trans-axle would need to be removed and the differential lock assembly inspected. The diff locks rarely fail unless abused. Once the trans-axle is disassembled, it will be obvious what caused the failure. If the tips of the lock pins are worn and the bores they lock in are elongated, the diff lock was abused, and non-warrantable.

The new housing, carrier, and differential lock collar with pins would cost approx. $1500.00.
Incidental parts, filter, oil, and supply maybe$250.00
Labor from the Repair Time Schedule is 7.4 hours.
So, $1500.00 for parts, $250 for incidentals, and $1200.00 minimum labor comes out to about $3000.00
Your dealer is trying to hose you big time at $9600.00.

I ask my dealer how much a new hst would be if I ever needed one and they said it was between $4000 and $5000. Thats for a new one. Find a different dealer.

When I read posts like this, about pricing, I wonder if the owner got a written estimate? If so, I'd send a copy to Korporate Kubota' and ask WHY the huge price ,compared to other dealers ? I've heard delaers are NOT allowed to fix 'grey' tractors, can lose their dealerships if caught. Doubling the repair price should receive a similar penalty.

that 7.4 hour labor figure is book time. Dealers are not required to use that unless it's warranty, so it's possible that the quoting dealer added labor to that figure? (They'd have to add a LOT of labor to come up with 9600). And/or I wonder if they're quoted an entire transmission assembly replacement?

having done a few RTV-X series, 7.4 hours is unattainable given the tooling and shop that "I" had to deal with. I know other dealers were better set up to do this, even other dealers in the chain of dealers that I was working within. Thus, us techs tried to find ways to get a little more, be it asking for diagnostic time, or whatever. I don't like losing money and neither did the boss.

I brought the tractor back and dropped it off at a reputable shop in Delaware. I was told there that if it was submitted under warranty by the shop in Washington, North Carolina and denied by Kubota, even if it was a warranty item in their opinion that Kubota would likely deny it again.
I see different YouTube videos where this is a common problem with the BX series tractor. I feel like Kubota has a real problem and they are just using the "it was abused" to wiggle out of fixing the problem. My tractor is a 2019 and has 340 hours, it has some scraps and scratch's but was definitely not abused.

How long is the warranty on a Kabota tractor? Mine are both over 20 years old so I certainly don’t remember. But I didn’t think it was over something like two years or so and yours seems to be four years old, maybe a bit older?

edit: I should’ve checked before I asked. Looks like for the BX 23S in 2019 the limited powertrain warranty was 72 months or 2000 hours.
