GR2000 hydro pump???

Local guy wants me to replace a hydro pump on his GR2000 riding lawn mower. Anyone know about these? Is it a rats nest I want to shy away from or a easy fix? Keep in mind I completely rebuild engines and chainsaws so I'm more than fairly mech inclined.

I have been doing some reading and it appears this model had some problems that kubota wanted to decline to help with.

I'm now wondering which models were the "good upgraded" ones and which were the ones that should have had a recall.

Tell your buddy to get rid of that headache. The GR2000/GR2100 were horrible as far as transmissions go. Not all that hard to work on, IMO, but I remember working on numerous. Far more than the G2160 that it "replaced".

I assume you're looking at replacing the charge pump? Or the entire transmission or? The whole thing can be a bear to get out. Really weird setup in there.
