Got "squirrled" again!!!!!!

So I almost never take General Jackson (the backhoe) off the General Lee. Its easy to do, however I have found that it is a very convenient way to ballast the machine and comes in quite handy on many occasions. (Best 10K I ever spent!)

Anywhoo, I had to take it off to put the PHD on, and at some point during the un-install/install , I get a interrupted.

So now when I return, somethings wrong.........I know somethings wrong.........Hmmmmmmm, that nagging feeling is gnawing at me but I can't see anything wrong......

Most import is to makes sure the hydraulic lines are connected to make sure the pump doesn't destroy itself.....I double and triple check it....check!

Then I look and inspect the attachment pins...........check!

So I stand there, switching thumbs for about 5 minutes, and I guess everything is good??????(but there is that lurking feeling)

Fast forward 2 months'ish

I go to install the PHD again, there it is, plain as day.

The 3 point "sideways control" arm is still attached.......

Maybe its ok?

It does not take long to figure out that I now have 2 "custom bent" swing arms.....Mother%$^&&%^$$$% Son of A %*^*&((^&(*& __--cucker aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Luckily enough (if your a glass half full kinda guy....which I am not) the bends are such that I can use them for todays job.

The Port one is not too bad.

But the starboard one is FUBAR and going to take a "wee little bit" of attention to straighten out.

The other thing that I happened when I was trying to put the PHD in its "cradle" was that I bent the stuffing out of it.

Now a view from the top.

I got the idea from "Tractor Mike" and built it out of some scrap.

In theory it should have worked great, but often times "theory" and "reality" clash, and this was one of those moments.

Ahh well, as they say "Back to the drawing board!"

For now I just went to Horror Freight and grabbed a Chinesium Chain Fall. (Damn those things got expensive....70 bucks for the 1 ton model.....used to be 30 bucks....)

Decided to "punt' for now and just strung it up next to the "new old stock" rotary cutter.

I thought that is why you got that fancy hyd. press. Fixing things like that!

Did you leave them hanging down thinking they'd remove any static build up?

Oh yea, the press was/is forefront on my list.

Unfortunately my "shop" is 4 hours south of my tractor, but I will get'r done this weekend.


And no, I did not confuse them with "static wicks",

I have a theory about why "I could not see the forest through the trees", but I'm just glad it should be a relatively simple fix.

I mean lets face it, the 3 point is not exactly a "high speed, low drag" set up, close will be good.

IF, it was me. I think I would cut the welds on the starboard one, press (or beat) the bar flat, then reweld. Save a lot of playing, trying to straighten that closes bend.

That's definitely an idea worth considering.

I'll have to see how it works out.

Some carefully distributed heat, .....and a BFH!

Do you have a vise? Clamp it in the vise to start the straightening process and finish up with the press.

I am sorry to hear you bent your hang low . And I love love love the narration…top shelf, really.

It’s not my shop or anything, but it appears those implements have stored energy in them as pictured. Before getting too happy with the throttle, I’d recommend consider eliminating that stored energy. Regarding your hang low, I have no idea that part is still ok or not, but I would wonder what’s replacement part run?
