Hi Guys,

I put in a backup generator this year, and I purchased a complete genset that came wired with a key switch. "Mis-wired" I might add, since the glow plugs didn't even work, but I didn't much care, as I knew I'd be putting a controller on it and re-wiring everything anyway.

The controller I went with (a DSE unit) has 12v low-current outputs for glow (pre-heat), start, and run.

When I first started, I'll be honest, I had no idea what I was doing, but after reading lots of information about how the fuel stop solenoid works, how the alternator's excite works, and a few hours of trial and error, I came up with the following:

I recently added the jumper between the COM on the crank relay and the NC on the glow relay, giving me pre-heat while cranking. Previously, it started ok, but not as smoothly as my BX. Now, with current passing to the glow plugs for pre-heat, and during cranking, it starts super smooth. At this point, I think it's "done", and figured I'd share in hopes it benefits someone else's project in the future :)
