Has anyone ever heard of a float valve for the the top link cylinder ? I have the top and tilt option and it would be nice to be able to float the top link cylinder while use a 3 point disc. Just thought Id throw it out there and see if anyone has such a thing.......Dan

Typically the float function is part of the control valve. Don't know if your valve can have this added to it or if you would just have to change out the valve itself.

Just one more reason to get the valves with the float function when the tractor is purchased. You might find that there are several conditions where it is advantages to have the float function for your side link also. ;)

What MtnViewRanch said, I didn't get a float valve on my L5740 and don't really miss it for what I do, but if I had it to do over, I would get the float function. It seems you never really know everything you need to know.

TripleR, any chance of a few pictures of your L5740 top & tilt after your son re-routed the hoses. I am curious is all. Just one of those things that I like to peak at every once in awhile.

Thanks in advance if you are able to take the time, if not, no big deal. ;)

When I was looking into purchasing a new L4600, my dealer told me that, if I were only getting one rear remote, it could not be a float valve. In fact, if you go onto "Build your Kubota" at the Kubota website, it is not an allowable option for the standard L series unless you get two or more remotes. It is an option for the grand L series. Go figure.

He should be down Sunday and I will try to remember to have him take a couple of pictures. I've been down and out for the last two weeks and have a few more to go. To be honest I haven't even paid any attention myself and am kind of curious now that you mention it.

I have the Grand L3830 and it has every option I thought available , well I guess not. I figured if you have a float valve on the front why not the back and I do have 3 remotes, all I have to do know is bite the bullet and buy the float valve. Thanks guys......Dan

About half the time I use a chain for the top link. It allows a "float" action, with positive lift capability at a certain point. Lots cheaper than hydraulic rams & valves.
I've noticed that the newer bush hogs and some other attachments have an articulating top link, offering a similar action.

It seems the stock OEM valve on tractors is the SCD (self-cancelling detent). Maybe a cooperative dealer would swap it out but it is not very likely. Probably would just recommend a second (or third) valve on the stack.

If you want additional valves you can get the FD (floating detent) as an option.

On my M7040, it was built with three valves, 2 SCD and 1 FD. The hydraulic lines can be hooked in any way that is desired depending on how you want the T&T to run along with any other hydraulically controlled implement.

The problem with using a chain as you mention is that it is possible for the implement to flip up onto the back of the tractor. I personally have not seen this happen, but have read about it on the tractor forums.

Also if you want-need the mower to be able to get full range of movement, the chain is only going to allow the mower to tilt towards the tractor, not away from it. Having a hydraulic top link that can float allows for this floating action in both directions while still having a rigid point where the implement CANNOT come back up onto the tractor.

I think that the best alternative to the hydraulic top link being able to float is the articulating top link that you mentioned. ;)
