Hello:

I am getting ready to change the engine oil for the first time in my Kubota L3301HST. I have some experience with a compact tractor having owned a Ford 1710 for 30 years. I performed all the routine maintenance.
Is there anything unique to servicing a Kubota Tractor that I should know or that needs special attention?

Thanks for any suggestions.

John

Nothing special but just be sure you use diesel rated engine oil.

The hydraulic filters may be difficult to remove if you’re planning on replacing them get a good quality filter wrench.

Use Kubota OEM filters is also recommended.

Kubota does not make filters, so some other filter manufactuer makes them, and labels as "Kubota" OEM.
Don't know who that is, but very likely a major USA, or Japan filter manufacturer.
I use Baldwin filters, made in USA.

I personally spend the extra coin and buy oil and filters directly from the Kubota dealer while it's in the warranty period.

I don't know about the 3301, but many Kubota diesels have 2 drain plugs because the pan is a W shape for front driveshaft clearance.

A nail or two or a rubber wrench will get the old filter off if you can't twist it off by hand. The new filter goes on hand tight, as tight as you can twist it on.

Remember to lube the filter's O-Ring.

Oh, and definitively make sure the old filter gasket comes off when you remove the old filter.

Don’t know your model, but should be pretty straight forward if you’ve done other vehicles, equipment, etc.

I will not use any filter other than Kubota branded versions. I know they don’t make them.

For motor oil, make sure diesel rated as others said. Beyond that, use what you like.

Im getting ready to change my hydraulic / HST fluid and filter in my B2650. When I change the filter does it matter what oil I put on the gasket? As in motor oil or hydraulic oil

No but why would you use engine oil when you have a bucket of hydraulic oil sitting there?

Thanks for all the advice.

FYI, I did go to a Kubota dealer for the engine oil and filter. Currently the tractor has about 45 hours on it. I have no bucket for my tractor, so hydralics are confined to the 3-point hitch. At this time, the tractor is used solely for cutting a pasture grass and weeds.
I will check the oil level in the front axle hub.

Yesterday while cutting the regeneration mode came on for the patriciate filter a part of the emission system. I was cutting at the time. This was the first time I noticed the indicator light on. It remained on for about 20 - 30 minutes. After rereading the owner's manual, as near as i can tell, that was a normal operation. Much different from my 1984 Ford 1710.

Thank Again,
John.

Regen on my L3901 takes roughly 10 minutes to complete. Next time make sure you increase engine speed to 2800+ RPM as soon as the lights start to flash.

How do you feel about leaving your Ford 1710 behind, for a Kubota?

I am considering a used (nearly new )Kubota L2301, and selling my 1100 hour Ford 1920 FEL with shuttle shift.
I am torn.
I love my relatively low hour, little 32 HP Ford (completely refurbished).

Welcome aboard! One very helpful item is a workshop manual. You need an owner's amnual at the minimum. That gives you the intervals for various services.

If you're doing the 50 hour serviec and want to change the hydro filter (and not the fluid) the ol' shop vac on the fill hole works well.

Just did my 50-hour service today. The one hydraulic filter was a bit of a pain and had to use a strap wrench instead of the filter wrench as a pipe was in the way. Hardly lost any oil using the shop vac. trick.

The HST filter on an L01 series is pressure fed, so you can remove the filter and only lose the oil in the filter.
