Hello, I know this isn't a Kubota question, but many of you are super knowledgeable about shop tools so I didn't know who else to ask. I have a used Wilton drill press and would like to change the chuck for one with a 5/8" capacity and keyless as well. My existing chuck says "6330 33 Taper" Not exactly sure what that means, I guess taper dimensions maybe. I also am scratching my head on how to remove the existing chuck as well. I am going to try to attach a photo of the existing chuck. Any ideas on how to remove the old chuck and what I need to order to replace my existing chuck. It's an old press but it comes in handy and sure beats using a hand drill. Thank you in advance for any advice!

There should most likely be a slot in the quill above the chuck that you can insert a wedge shape piece of steel. give it a tap and it should drive the old chuck out of the quill. It's just a taper press fit.

A pic of more of the quill holding the chuck would be more helpful to see if in fact there is a slot there for that purpose.

Edit: The 33 would mean that the chuck itself has a JT33 taper to fit on the drill chuck arbor itself.
You may be able to reuse your same arbor. Or just by a whole new arbor/chuck setup to the size you need.

I did see after more looking online, that the collar may be threaded and attached to the chuck. If so, it seems it holds the chuck to the arbor and can assist in releasing the chuck from the taper. But I don't think I'm going to start banging around on it just yet until I get some more advice. I do think you are right about the 33 number being a size 33 taper. Drill press is pretty old, but it runs true and doesn't wobble.
Thanks!

Is that 6330 or 633C?

That chuck looks exactly like mine except mine has a collar. I'm now thinking the "C" stands for "Collar"?

I suspect the chuck is simply pressed onto the arbor/spindle which is a JT33 taper. Here is the socket on the backside of the one in my picture.

So I took a punch and hammered the collar loose by turning it counter clockwise. Continued hammering until it forced the chuck off as well. I can't find a chuck with a threaded collar so I'm just going to order a plain 33 Taper keyless chuck. Thank you all for the help and advice!
I have designed and tested a pretty neat attachment for my 3pt hitch sprayer. I would like to post photos of it and a description of the DIY. Where would I post this thread on the forum?

When I looked I found a few chucks with those collars but not 5/8 capacity.

Late to the party, but they (Jacobs) do make a pair of wedges specifically for removing taper-mounted chucks.
Hope you didn't damage the shaft with the hammering.
