Hello helpful people!

I have an issue and wanted to know if anyone has seen it before and/or know the next best move.

I am a marine mechanic by trade but mainly work on outboard motors and not so much diesel tractors!

I have been helping my neighbour with his b8200 with the D950 engine(I have the b7200 and did the clutch in the spring) and he has had a no start for a few months now.

Anyway after messing around with a bunch of different things, including cleaning his injectors in my ultrasonic and some other maintenance issues we have fuel absolutley pissing out of the crankcase. I even drained all the "oil" and left it empty and when we even just crank for 2 seconds fuel comes out by the starter and bellhousing.

Question, i don't belive this is from from the injectors being stuck open. I'm assuming this is an injection pump issue which I believed to be the problem before we started. Does this pump have a seal which could be blown which would leech fuel into the crank? Is it replaceable or is it new pump time? Is this something I could do or is time to call a specialist injection pump rebiuld shop maybe?

Any advice greatly appreciated 👏 and any questions I can answer to help the process I will do my best to give as much info as possible!

Tom

It is usually a blown diaphragm in the mechanical lift pump, the pump which feeds fuel to the injection pump..

Like Dave said your odds are much higher on it being the lift pump, don't rebuild it get a new one.

To answer your questions about DIY on an injector or injector pump rebuild…

I would personally never attempt or recommend anyone trying to do much more than remove and ship to a shop that knows what they are doing and have the proper equipment to do the repairs and testing.

You can probably find a local shop but there are reputable shops like Oregon Fuel Injection.

No idea what Canadians do with a vendor being in the USA though.

UPDATE...

Do I ended up going and getting a new lift pump/low pressure pump and the little F$%÷×R is leaking right from the brand new sealed bag. 250$ CDN and I'm not super happy about it but needless to say the dealer is closed today. Will be hearing from me on Monday!

Anyway, I rigged up a tank above the tractor with a marine primer bulb to put straight to the Injection pump and voila, it started up!

Question, could I bypass this mechanical pump and put a low pressure electric pump on Intead? Is that dumb or would it work. 250$ pump that leaks is not super cool and a cheap DC pump is a fraction of the cost.

You can do that, or order a cheap replacement off eBay for ~$30. My Chinese special is on its 3rd year. You'll need to blank the hole if you remove the pump.

Don't know why I missed this in searching until now. But I found videos of a guy who did just what you're thinking with a DC pump.
