What model year did Kubota tractors start using the Diesel Exhaust Fluid???

I'm in the market for a good used Kubota tractor for general homestead use and I'd like to find an older one with low hours back before this stuff was required.

I think everything past 2008* with more than 75 horsepower was required to use DEF.

Unless you’re looking at a larger utility sized tractor 70+hp, no models require DEF of any year.

Anyone before 2012 will not have any exhaust non-sense on it.

That's why I'd only consider going to look at tractors under 1000 hours in hopes of finding one that is still in good condition and not all beat up.

I like my 6.7 Ford diesel, it doesn't smoke, stink or rattle and has a lot of horsepower. I would not want an old 7.3 that was about as uncivilized as they come. Adding some DEF a couple of times a year is a small price to pay to get something that isn't a pig. While I don't have a tractor that is large enough to have a DEF system, I would have no problem with running a modern engine.

Adding DEF is a minor inconvenience, the real Tier IV emissions pain is the fuel wasting, extreme exhaust temperature creating, problem prone DPF (diesel particulate filter).

Hmm. That's not what the Messick's video says:

once we go up above 26 horsepower between 26 and about 75 that's the point where you're able to treat most of your exhaust without death so you're meeting those emission standards at either a DPF a diesel particulate filter or a DOC a diesel oxidation catalyst every tractor has one of the two in that 26 275 horsepower range

That starts at the 4:39 mark.

But he said none had DEF. The way I understood Messick's, some might have DEF. Some might have DOC.

This is true, because Kubota does not use DEF on any tractor under 75HP.

I think your confusing DEF with DPF.

DEF = Diesel Exhaust Fluid
DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter
DOC = Diesel Oxygen Catalyst

They are 3 different animals in the emissions battle.

Also what assurances are out there that a gov entity wont require destroying or retrofitting non emisions tractors? Could be only a few short years away never know.

Well, I've learned that I can get one that does not need DEF and is not a pig.

I don't need extra un-necessary crap on my new-to-me tractor.

All this emissions business is a bunch of BULLoney regardless of what type of vehicle they're wanting to regulate.
