I have always been on the fence on this one. Indispensable for engine testing and large fleets. Probably more hobby for the guy with the VW. Before I retired I brought in my oil samples to work for testing. Have never paid an outside lab so do not test now, hobby guy
Consistency is required for good results if you don't have a main gallery tap take the sample from the middle part of the drain. The first and last oil from the pan can give false results.
To use the data you need to plot the data over time/miles so you can see any developing trend. Also when you start a new program send in a new oil sample with the used. Data on file can be outdated.
