Shut tractor off, wiggle around the control lever. I have to move mine a lot before the pressure is relieved, ilke into all the positions several times. Once that pressure is relieved it'll go on like butter on a hot biscuit.

With the tractor off there is no flow, or pressure, in the hoses on the tractor. On mine sometimes there is pressure in the backhoe hoses from sitting. Wiggle the hoe sticks around before trying to hook up to the back hoe. Hold couplers as straight as possible when trying to connect.
I just had to replace the coupler set today on mine (130 hours) from the pump side back to the tractor. Was leaking like crazy on Saturday and lost about a gallon of oil.

One other tip - the center pins on the male hoses OF THE ATTACHMENT (backhoe, etc) can be depressed to release the pressure in the line ON the attachment.
Be careful - it can be under real pressure.
Use a flat screwdriver with the flat of the blade on the center pin of the connector and tap it with a hammer so it helps if you are an octopus to hold everything.
I placed a rag over it to catch the squirt of fluid.

Yes, remember to raise your loader, shut the engine off, then lower the loader to releive the tractor side line pressure.

The OP asked this question back in June. I suspect he’s either figured it out by now or sold the backhoe.

But if anyone else comes across this thread.... a possibility (besides residual pressure fighting you) might be that Push-Lock Pioneers are being used... which require the female’s hose be pulled forward ... “injected” into the backside of the female... to release the ball-locks, so the male can be inserted.
