Looks like the first service is 4 to 5 hundred dollars. Should I attempt this myself? or will that void a warranty? Or is this a piece of cake for even a novice? Thanks' for all your input in advance..

Jay,

if you can turn a wrench - it is not bad at all, just have some time set aside and patience!

There are tricks to be had however!
Changing the engine oil filter is a PITA unless you take off all the front bumper and what not.

the videos are great as tripleR said. Learn a lot by seeing someone else do it!

Like the man said if you can turn a wrench you can do it,,, Everything you can do for your self allows you to learn more about your equipment, and the more you know the better off you ll be,, wait,,,,,
that sounds like an insurance commercial ;)
ANd you save a ton of bucks,, well maybe not a ton but enough for a couple cases of Guinness:D

Jay - I did mine a couple years ago, without thinking twice.

It's a piece of cake!!

I dumped EVERYTHING when I serviced mine. There are other schools of thought about just changing HST filter, etc.

A couple guys mention getting at the motor oil filter. I got at mine with a good set of filter pliers, without taking anything off. The wrench TripleR suggests looks like it'll work very well, too.

As usual, the factory filters are on kinda tight, but not bad. (My Harley was the worst!!)

Good luck, and best wishes!:D

If you handy even a little bit with tools do it yourself!! Hell if you were close to me and wanted to pay me $400-$500 to do your first servicing I would gladly do it for that much and wax your kubota for you  That goes for anyone else that is gonna pay the dealer that much money for something so basic!:D

I just did my 50 hour - plus changed the Hydro oil out and fuel filters and air filter.

Got a kit from online I think it was $60 (oil filter, air filter, 2 fuel filters and trans filter). I think 5 gallons of UDT2 was like 90 or $100. But you don't have to do that at 50 hours. I just wanted to try the 2 out

1 gallon of oil was I think $20, rotella had a rebate going on so it was $15

So if just the 50 hour service its gonna be like $80 or so an an hour or two of your time.

I had the front off doing other things (block heater and such) so the oil change was a snap.

Biggest pain in the ass out of the entire thing was the damn lower fuel filter underneath. But thats not needed at the 50 hr mark i don't think. I did mine just to do.

First engine service at 200 hrs here went smooth, BUT

I had an engine heater installed when purchased. It is on the cold side of the radiator and blocks quite a lot of access to engine filter. A
regular strap filter wrench wold be very difficult or impossible.

I searched in my tools for a suitable filter removal tool. I found a cap-like device for removing filter parts on my Toyota truck. It fits on the Kubota filter loosely. The filter was not stuck on very bad, but a little something to close the loose fit might have been better. Was a difficult job to remove from old filter, so for installing the new filter I used a large adjustable plyers, very carefully so as to avoid puncturing the fiulter.

This Toyota "cap thing" gets turned with a hex wench about 7/8" as I recall.

We do all the routine maintenance on our BXs, Ls and M. The BX is very easy to do and certainly not worth paying a dealer to do. See if this helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi9PVdEmNRs
Well that made it look very simple. Although a lot of TV shows also make a task look easy as pie. Until I attempt it. Then nothing goes right. My schedule has at 50 hr's. engine oil, transmission fluid, and hydraulic oil filter cleaning. Does the transmission fluid, account for the hydraulic fluid for the FEL and the trans? Maybe I need to watch the video again. I only saw two fluid changes. Thanks'

Yes, you only have engine oil and transmission/hydraulic fluid. Your refill amount will probably be different than the book. I usually run mine a bit and recheck.

If you don't change the front axle fluid, check it as it is really common for them to be low. When you do change it, run it a while and recheck, it seems to take a while to get inn all the right places.

Not to sound snarky, but how much did you think it was going to run and how much was your tractor? These things are specialty machines and not cheap.
I did the 50 hr myself using OEM filters, fluids, etc... I think it still set me back a couple hundred. OEM stuff adds up pretty fast.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, do the work yourself. Really not terribly difficult, just takes a bit of time.
If you aren't mechanically inclined then have the dealer do it consider it cheap insurance that it's all done correctly and you don't get dirty or knuckles banged up.

If you think this is pricey then read up on some of the dealer repairs some owners have had done. Some of the stories are crazy and scary!

Good luck.

Okay I will admit I was an owner that had the Dealer do the 50hr service.

I had additional warranty work that needed to be accomplished so I had them do that at the same time.

4-500 seems a little out of line for just the service. My Dealer (70 miles away) picked up the tractor did the service and warranty work including sharpen/service the mowing deck and waxed the tractor (yes waxed it :D). I also purchased and had installed the newer floormat.

All that returned to me within a week for under 500.

I think the just the service with PU/Delivery to me would have been 325......

Personally I expected 250. to 300. I understand this is not a lawn mower like you buy at Walmart for 999.00. I called 2 different Kubota dealers. Both dealers stated 4 to 5 hundred. Thanks to all the input and videos on this site I believe I will try this myself. Thanks for all the support everyone. Great site here.

I just had mine done, it was less than 400 with the front axle lube replaced along with the transmission and fuel filter.
I thought it was fair, i priced all the lubes and filters and it like 200, plus they showed me a lube point under the mat i would of missed, plus i wanted it checked over to make sure all was OK.

The 4 to 5 hundred isn't that far off really. Not for a 50 hour service which is basically everything. The fluids and filters alone account for a large chunk of that cost.

Wait til you see what it costs for a 50 hour on an M series. Upwards of $1000 and more in some cases. It's hard to swallow that cost but most that have those tractors are farmers and ranchers, who can write off part of the maintenance and repair costs. That helps. Fluids and filters on a 9540 are around $600 by themselves, labor is cheap. Then at 800, the valve adjustment. On a tractor with a DPF, it also gets expensive because of the time required to remove half of the engine compartment to gain access to the valve cover. On a little BX, that is easy.

The 50 hour is almost always the most expensive. At 200, oil and filter. And of course in between you'll want to make sure the fluid levels stay full and the air filter stays clean. Oh and don't forget the coolant level!
