Looking to pick up a three point hitch finish mower for my L3901. It does not have a mid-mount PTO so the mower must be a 3 point hitch type. I am sure a 6 foot would work since I have a 6 foot Land Pride Rotary Cutter, but I am wondering if I can go larger than 6 foot for a finish mower. In addition to the size, I'd like some recommendations on what finish mowers you guys like. I prefer Woods and Land Pride.

A guy a few miles down the road is selling a woods RM990, but it's a 9 foot cut and I am thinking that's way too big although he is telling me it would work fine.

I have a 60" finish mower that I run behind my 15hp l1501 :D since your running almost triple the hp you should be able to handle the 6 footer easily.

You should see if he will let you demo the 9 footer to see if it will work ;)

My L3000 handles a 6' mower just fine so you could go a little bigger if you want but you better have pretty flat ground. From my experience the wider the mower the more it will scalp on uneven ground.

Brand, I suggest Bushhog. I have been using mine since the summer of 2000. Only repairs I've made is replaced the bushings in the wheels with the roller bearing kit they offer. I would buy another Bushhog brand mower if I ever wear this one out.

We have a 7' and 8', you won't have any trouble with 7' or maybe even the 8', for me 9' is just not practical.

Ours are old Caroni mowers, but if I was buying now, I'd go LP or Woods. not familiar using other brands.

6 footer works great for me, im sure the tractor will handle a bigger one though, as Bulldog said a wider one is going to scalp on the uneven parts of your yard. I too have a caronni that is pretty old. I bought it used to see if a finish mower was going to work for me or not, it does by the way. I looked at a used 7ft LD last fall, should have bought it but didn't. oh well the old one I have still cuts pretty good.

A woods RM990 is not 9' it's 90" or 7.5 foot.
Regardless it's still too big it's a 45 to 75 HP requirement, and your only putting out 30.6 HP.

I ran a 7' finish mower for years behind an L3410 without issue. I looked at several brands and decided on Befco because it appeared to be better constructed. It has been problem free for a long time, and now rides behind an L4060.

I have a L3700SU and a 6' Caroni, My dad has a L3800HST and a 6' Woods and both work great. I think the L series is rated for a 7, however I agree with the others about scalping if your ground is not level.

Land pride 6' painted to match my L3901 $2800.00. Heavy duty and does a good job. But the finished quality is not a "golf course" perfect mowing job. I did have to replace a belt, using it like a bush hog and not like a finish mower.
