Hi all, I am a new owner of a 1990 b8200. I hooked my brush hog yesterday and could not get the pto to engage at the 540 speed. It would engage and disengage 748 just fine. Any thoughts to why it wouldn't engage the low speed?

The engagement of the PTO is the same regardless of the speed?
So little confused, more info?

Sorry I think a typo may have led to confusion. It will not engage at 540 but will engage fine at 748
Lets start over:
What exact model do you have.
Is it a:
B8200EP = 2wd Gear
B8200DP = 4wd Gear
B8200HST-EP = 2wd Hydro
B8200HST-DP = 4wd Hydro

Now what do you mean by it won't engage?
Will the speed selector not go to the 540 position?
Or will it go to the 540 position but can't engage the PTO?

B8200DP. It will go to 540 position but can't engage pto.

You're probably not going to know until you have a look internally. There isn't much external to the transmission that could be wrong if your engaging the high speed PTO without issue.

Doesn't turn the pto. Engagement lever will move fine. Does not grind or stall.
Then yes you'll need to split it and open it up to find out what's missing.
OR
Just back the RPM's down a bit and use the higher setting. ;)

Yea you can safely run it like that, heck it even saves fuel, just a little less HP.

If my math is correct, 1830 engine RPM while on the 2nd PTO setting should yeild 540 RPM at the rear.
