Looking for information on the front axle pivot bolt. My pivot bolt will not tighten enough to get the correct cotter pin through the castle nut. I have removed the bolt and the plate from the rear that centers or supports the axle. Everything looks good but I still cannot figure out why the bolt seems too short by about a 1/8”. Looking at the parts blow-ups it appears that everything is in its place. Could the frame plates that support this whole thing have moved or shifted farther apart or am I missing something?
I have tightened the castle nut down far enough to cause the front axle to not pivot very freely and still end up a little short to make the pin hole.
Help.

Look real closely at the bolt there might be 2 sets of holes for the cotter pin, mine has 2.

Good point. I will do that as soon as possible. Do you know how tight the castle nut should be. I have yet to buy the shop service manual but I can tell it is a neccesity.

Thanks,

Oldbota, can you take a pic of that set up your talking about. I'm wondering if its the same set up as my b7100. Was your oil pan in the way of removal of that long bolt?

Was the tractor ran with that bolt loose? If so, sometimes the hanger plates can get bent from the axle moving back and forth causing the gap between them to increase, making the bolt too short. If so, they will have to be bent back to their original position. Or with some redneck engineering you can add a spacer to fill the gap and then use a longer bolt.
