B2650 Woodmaxx

B2650 Woodmaxx vs Woodland

I have emailed with Jim at Woodmaxx but I***8217;m still unsure which chopper to pick.

Now throwing Woodland Mills into the mix with the WC68

Options are the TM-86H or the WM-8H

Jim says on my tractor they will both cut the same size wood.
No wood size advantage with the bigger chipper.

Both chippers are within $150 of each other.

Do I go with the larger more complicated unit or the compact simpler unit.

Any real world experiences?

I'm looking at neither of those models for my B2650, but am close to deciding on a Woodland Mills WC68.

It appears the Woodmaxx chippers are the old Ginma chippers from China.

Unless something has changed the Ginma didn't have a good reputation. Granted this info was from some time ago, so lets hope things have improved.

I have been looking at chippers also. I do like the self contained on board feed system of the Woodland 4" chipper. My tractor pto horse power falls at the high side for the 4" chipper and at the lower side for the 6" chipper. I think the 4" would run better from that standpoint. I can't imagine rarely having anything big enough to need the bigger capacity at this point in time.

But the extra price for the Woodland over the gravity fed BX42, 4" capacity China chipper that goes under several names is half the money. Also finding and getting one delivered economically seems an issue. I also would be nervous about parts availability.

My 5 cents of opinion at this time.

that unit looks good. It states the minimum hp required to operate is 20.

Our tractors are 19.5 at the PTO.

Any concern's.

It's Jinma, not Ginma btw. I happen to have an 8" power infeed with extra knives for sale in the classified section. Been bulletproof and I've chipped a pile of limbs wth it. Takes nywhere from 15 pto up to 50 and comes complete with PTO shaft.

Parts availability on the Jinma 8" is good. Circle C and Woodmax sell all the parts and knife sets.

Chippers make wood chips. Why complicate it with extra convenience stuff.

I read up a bunch of user reviews and some are using our tractor with no problems for power. The hydraulic feed is speed adjustable so larger diameter material can be chipped at a suitable slow speed. Also, anything over 4 inches diameter will become firewood instead of being chipped.

Heard back from both companies.

Both machines are made in China.

Both machine cost roughly the same.

Who has better customer service?

Which machine will outlast the other?

How important is fly wheel weight. Why doesn't Woodland provide specs on that.

So many questions...

Flywheel weight is very important. That is what generates the energy to keep the knives moving when a log is up against them. The heavier the better, you just need enough power to get it going.

Exactly. I believe the flywheel / knife mount in my old Jinma 8" is 150 pounds r so. You get it up to speed, it stays there.

Used PTO chippers are pretty hard to find btw.

I purchased a WM-8H at the end of last summer. As far as customer support goes, I got the wrong PTO shaft, because of quick hitch it was too short. I called spoke to a "real" person told them my problem and they sent me the longer shaft and I sent the short one back. Couldn't ask for any thing more at that point. I only have about 2 hours on it, but for the money I think it is going to be fine for me. I have a Gr L6060 and it doesn't even grunt while chipping. I would get the 8" even with a smaller HP tractor. If you can't chip 8" wood just feed smaller wood at slower speed. Then when you get a larger tractor you won't have to up grade the chipper.

You could also look at the Bear Cat Chipper products. I have an older model and it's a great chipper/shredder. I haven't used it in a while and it's tucked away for the winter so I don't think I could get the O.H. door open to get a model number off it. I'll be using it on my new B2650 this summer. I used to run it off my JD750 which had 17 PTO HP and the Bearcat would really eat wood. Heavily built and I believe they're still built in the US.

As far as I am aware, Woodmax is now completely sourcing all its parts from the USA, and no longer uses Chinese parts. I just put 25hrs on my Woodmax 9900 chipper last week, and everything was working fine. Overall, Its slightly slower chipping, than a Vermeer rental unit I used last year, and the build quality was simply excellent. It also has a 220lb flywheel which tears into tree limbs.

No concern about the HP, beginning with reading several of many user reviews where their tractor PTO HP is below 20hp, and runs the WC68 fine - though they also say they're not chipping much above 4" material as they use it for firewood instead of chips. I'm also of the opinion that an implement like this, if slightly under powered by the tractor, will last longer and/or wear more slowly than if running at 50hp and chewing up 8" trees.

I have the WM H8 with WELL over 300 hours on it. Its on a 49hp M4000. It is a chipping fool!!! I cant imagine needing anything larger or more powerful. I run everything from buck brush to 6" Cedar and Pine to 4" oak limbs through it without a hiccup.

So did I. It arrived in 4days from NY all the way down to GA!!!

I just unloaded it from the semi yesterday.

Going to put it together tonight.

Nice! Mine is in Winnipeg already, shipped from Toronto area last Friday. I'm an hour drive east of Winnipeg. Any day now!
