Our friend is going to move up from his Kubota B2410 to a larger JD. He has offered it to us, but has asked us to do the research and make an offer. I think it is a 2000 year model with hydrostatic drive, 4x4, and has a mid pto. It has an LA352 (I think) loader on the front, and has 650 hours. As you know, what used tractors are advertised for, and what they sell for, is usually quite different. I looked online to see what others are selling for, and it seems asking prices are in the 6-9K range, kind of high for a 20 year old tractor which sold for 16K new. What are your thoughts?

Id just say that original selling price has much less to do with its value than its present condition and what comparables are priced at. I see jd tractors such as 4020’s that consistently sell for much more than they sold for new back in the late 60’s. And thats having thousands of hours.
Also, asking and selling prices arent usually that much different. Sure theres a diference between wholesale and retail, maybe 25% at most. You mention a “freind” is offering this to you. Take your freind to a dealer that you both know, sit down and ask him what the right price would be. Theyd more than likely be forthright with both of you present. Otherwise with what youre mentioning about asking and selling prices, not enough depreciation, etc. it seems like a one way freindship to me.

That's a 10k+ machine if it's in good condition and everything works.
The hours are low.
Their is no emissions equipment on this unit.
Most if not all repair parts for the unit are still available from a dealer.
Kubota's hold their value, and no that's not too high for a 20 year old tractor.

then it is a highly sought after machine.

That's a 24HP 1.1L machine. It's similar in size and capability to a B2601. The value of it is driven by the price of a new B2601, and how close it's capability is - i.e. how much more would you pay to have a brand new B2601. The answer for most users of tractors is "I'd pay a bit more for a new one, but not that much more". And so the value of it will be not that much less than a new one - maybe half the value of a new B2601 (assuming it's in very good condition). Deduct some for being in worse condition. 6-9K is probably about right for a good condition one.
Thanks for all the good input! It is in really good condition, no rust, always been stored indoors. My only real concern now is tires, as one of the rears has a small triangle shape rip in the tread area about the size of a dime. Seems like Goodyear is about the only game in town on those, and are $400 each! I talked to my friend and he offered the tractor for $6500 so we are going to jump on it.
