Attaching a backhoe issues

Hi Guys,

First time poster here and owner of a just delivered L4600

So, ive just had the 4600 delivered with a 3 point hitch and subframe fitted for the 92 backhoe (which i bought used)

Two quick questions, do I need the remove the 3 point hitch before attaching the backhoe and secondly when I went to attach the backhoe the top connection of the subframe where the pin goes through does not align exactly with the backhoe, it is out by a 1/4 of an inch ie the subframe needs to be a 1/4 further apart to allow the backhoe to align and fit.

Any suggestions before I call the dealer?

So first of all, welcome and you came to the right place.

You definitely want to read the manuals and IMO do a Google search and check out a few videos of on/off process. YES to removing the 3PH bars

A few things to consider:

• So mine is smaller BH77and I spent way more time the first time off & on than subsequent. 92 "should" be similar?
• Not sure where you are off but the alignment can be tricky and learning what & how to ease or extend can be frustratingly maddening or magically easy.
• Also, FWIW I generally leave mounted and have only done so a half dozen times or so and usually batch the jobs I need to do without it

yes... remove your 3pt hitch.

assuming its truly out of alignment and not an issue of using outriggers or combination dipper / boom to get holes to align then normally the installer of the sub frame has the backhoe on hand so when subframe torqued into place it is "set" in position where the top 2 pin holes will line up. I would suggest if outrigger / boom / dipper cannt get them to align and if you are comfortable and skilled enough to make the work you loosen up the sub frame, fit the BH, torque down the subframe and bobs your uncle the 2 top mounting holes will align.

First couple of attaching the backhoe attempts took a couple of hours and frequently referencing the manual. Learning the sequence and quirks. Now takes 10-15 minutes to switch either way. Practice helps. If your in a hurry it always takes twice as long.

Surprised your backhoe wasn’t delivered with the backhoe attached. If you can’t get it, be sure contact the dealer and let them help figure it out. There might need adjustment or parts.

I had the manager help me dismount, remount the backhoe on one tractor in the parking lot before loading it.

Have read the manuals, even before she arrived (couldnt wait!) and spent hours watching some really helpful videos, thanks to all that have spent time putting them together.

I bought the backhoe used and therefore it wasnt fitted to the new machine however the tractor was delivered with the subframe fitted.

I'd watched the video that rc51stierhoff suggested but that was a slightly different model to mine and i was hopeful but expecting that I would have to remove the 3 point.

I hope you are having some luck…the pics you sent are sort of small, but up close something definitely seems misaligned. I wonder is the whole unit misaligned (not square) to the machine?

I have a BH92 myself… I am not sure whether the subframes are bh model or machine specific or not, but that might be interesting to know or check to make sure you have the subframe that will match the BH for your machine (basically I’d check part numbers correct before disassembling / reassembling. )

Is everything on flat ground? That helps with aligning machine to the BH, IMO.

I’d also mention, assuming yours is like mine and when remove the lower link arms, there is a bolt bracket that you remove / put back in). I went ahead and ordered replacements immediately for when I lose them.

My 77 requires the removal of the 3pt arms.

I have about 1/8 "to 3/16" of "play" on each side of my "attachment ears"

It is also a little touchy as far as aligning it to the tractor when its on the ground: However, after I built my dolly, I found that the little extra "jiggle room" made a huge difference, in both time and frustrations.

Now it's on/off in a few minutes.

It’s always a PIA when things just don’t line up! It looks like there is little wear on the mounting surfaces, do you know if the BH has ever been on this tractor and sub frame?
If I am interrupting your pictures correctly it looks like the BH mounts are about 7/16s wider than the sub frame. Could the sub frame be missing some shims to widen it? I tried to find a parts diagram for the sub frame (I believe it to be #7K505-16205) to see if this might be the case without luck.
Here is a weird thing I found out when ordering a thumb for my Bh from the dealer, through a salesman. The Woods part number for the thumb was the same as the Kubota part number. It would not fit and I had to return it, 120 mile round trip plus wasted time!
Ok, I got a free Kubota ball cap out of the deal, yab-dab-do!

This looks like it will take loosening the subframe and re-aligning it for the specfic backhoe you're trying to attach, and may even need some kind of shim plates to bump the subframe into line.
That would best be accomplished at the dealer shop that attached the subframe, if possible, and send the backhoe with of the tractor course. My BH and tractor came pre-mounted and adjusted new so has fit from the start.

As for the 3-point hitch, the actual 3-point hydraulic lift-arms attached to the tractor's rear end at least on my BH77/B2650HSD combo do not need to be removed to attach and run the backhoe. I just lower the arms all the way and leave them there.

For sure the lift links, top link, hitch bars and sway bracing all come off! If that set of parts is what everyone is referring to as the "3-point hitch", then yes it's gotta go to mount the backhoe.

Thanks for all the replies!
I tried all your suggestions but with no luck. The ROP bars are preventing the subframe from being adjusted further and it made me start to think that maybe they put the wrong subframe on ie the subframe for the 72 instead of the 92.
Someone on an Australian forum mentioned that the 2 frames are similar except that the 92 is wider than the 72, which is the problem im experiencing.
my question is, is there any number or stamp or any other distinquishing features between the 2 subframes which would help me identify which one it is?
The dealer is being very non responsive and I want to arm myself with as much info before I escalate this to Kubota Australia.
