Anyone use JD Hy Gard in their HST?

In cleaning out my closets in the basement of the carriage house, I cam across 2 gallons of unopened JD Hy Gard lo vis HST oil. Tried advertising it for $10/gallon on a local network and also on Craigslist. No bites. I'm inclined to get a couple gallons of UDT2 and take a little bit of both mixed together and warm them up to make sure there is no precipitate. Then use 50/50 for the 400 hour change. The UDT2 is between Hy Gard lo vis and high vis stuff in terms of viscosity.

Also had a gallon of JD CoolGard. Will use it at the first coolant change. No mixing there. Just drain and refill.

Anyone use some leftover Hy Gard? Think mine was from 2013 when I bought the 1025R lemon that I only had for a couple years.

I think some individuals are generally unwilling to purchase fluids other than from the dealer even though they were in sealed containers as they are unsure what they may get. When it comes to transmissions, I use what the manufacturer calls for. In the case of kubotas, calls for super UDT (SUDT). This fluid, long with engine oil, is the life blood of your equipment. For me, I don't need expensive repair bills. If a Kubota, use SUDT and Hy Gard for JD's. My opinion.

I've read that the HST is sensitive to the fluid used. I use only SUDT2 for that reason. Kubota lists no substitutes. They permit alternate engine oils and coolants but have no alternate for hydraulics. I can't afford to risk repair bills.

Physical properties are very close to SUDT2. Also has as similar water tolerance.

KV100 7.1 cSt vs 8.1 cSt
KV40: 35 cSt vs 37 cSt
Viscosity index 198 vs 199

Why........just to use up the Hy Gard?
Perhaps a limited risk,...... but makes zero sense!
Give the Hy Gard away!

I had a gallon-plus of the JD Hy Gard fluid after trading my JD425 Garden Tractor for the Kubota BX.

I thought it to be very good stuff, but didn't research its characteristics. I'm not savvy enough to evaluate its applicability anyway.

At first, I thought I'd use it in the front axle, but the drains aren't complete in the front axle, or any fluid.

Didn't want to mix it with other fluids, Kubota brand or otherwise.

Didn't really consider using it in the HST.

I think I donated it to my local auto shop for their waste-oil furnace, or it might have lit some Butternut I had for outdoor bonfires..... 🔥

I wouldn't use it either. It might be fine, but why try to save pennies for something that might cost you thousands. Leave the two gallons on Craigslist, and someone will bite eventually.

Although we're Kubota purists here, the JD low-vis is their premium fluid as is SUDT2.
Just a SWAG,I think you could use it as a replacement fluid.
Good Luck!

If your machine is under warranty it's always best to just use the manufacturers recommended oils/fluids and filters if anything would fail it's the 1st thing they are going to check for.

My B2410 came with that in it. That was 20 years ago, and runs like a champ.

I haven't RUN it 20 years with it, just the first 100 hours. I switched over to Mystic after that. Now on my new L4060 I will run the Kubota fluid, but my old B2410 has been trouble free running both the JD and Mystic stuff.

In fact I just went and looked and sure enough still have the original bottle of Hy Gard that came with the tractor back in 2002.

See if your JD dealer will swap the Hy Gard your cousin bought you for a gift …for motor oil or store credit.

A lot of drag racers use it in the automatic transmissions. If you're gonna put it on CL, put it in the auto parts section advertised as "powerglide transmission fluid", and in the description make sure to point out that it's hy-gard. it'll sell if there's any racers around.

Thanks. Posted it that way.
