We have a 2006 M9540D with about 1000 hours that is seems to shift too hard. When moving seems to be the worst. Not that it's not completely unable to shift, but not smooth. Am I hoping for too much or is there a problem?
Thnx

I have a 2012 M7040 with 350 hrs on it.

It will never shift like the 5 speed on a Mazda 3.

Initially it was much harder to shift and improved a bit with time but it is never going to get silky smooth.

I think the best you can do is to find a similar M series tractor to drive and compare with yours for shifting smoothness.

Our M8540 has never been smooth, the linkage was improved on the M60 Series.

The open station tractors are harder to shift than the cab models, I guess the linkage differences. I seem to remember an improvement publication from Kubota about it (could be wrong)-might be worth calling the dealer to see what the bulletin entails. Just because there's a bulletin doesn't mean Kubota will pick up the tab on it, so be prepared for that.

The DT models were really hard to shift...I hated them. When I worked at a dealer, they sold I think one DT and said never again....all others from that point on were hydraulic shuttle models, and to my knowledge have had NO problems. And they shift a LOT easier.
