Hello my grandmother asked me to post this question regarding her commercial 60 inch Kubota driveshaft. While she was mowing horse pasture today she had it up on 3 inches because it was high grass. When she finished mowing about 2 acres. she noticed darker smoke coming out from the driveshaft. No grass sticks or debris was around it. she is concerned why it would do this and what is going on. The belt was not hot. I appreciate any of your thoughts. thank you

Is there a gearbox the driveshaft goes into? If so can it be Lacking lubrication?

I wouldn't think a mower would have a slip clutch, but if it is loose, it will slip, become hot and smoke.

Grandma needs to grease and maintain her equipment. You need to look at what's going wrong and where, reporting smoke "over there somewhere on the big orange machine" doesn't really help. You will also help yourself if you give the model and year on the ZTR.

Well shoot, I just realized this was a Zero turn and not a tractor/mower. The Kubota zero turn mowers require periodic maintenance. The drive shaft alone has multiple grease fittings. More details would help.
