2004 ZD28F Safety Switches

I have a 2004 ZD28F that starts with the control arms out and dies when they are pulled in. Seat switch is now defeated and wired hard while I do this trouble shooting. I know the PTO switch had lots of debris under its flapper but it makes contact in the PTO disengaged position and the mower starts up. Both control arm switches are clicking and seem fine but may need to be meter tested. Could one or both be in a failed state and when I pull the control arms in not be telling the "system" that they are open?

My worry for me is even with a full 256 page workshop manual that I have, I still can't diagnose in my feeble brain how to adjust the intricate parts of the brake, its safety switch or adjustments to the manual pull lever used after starting. If anyone can enlighten me on what I am missing, I would appreciate it immensely.

Right now the strategy I am thinking is just to simply replace the brake safety switch completely and go from there.

you mentioned "meter test"

that would be your first step in finding out - take off the wires and check for continuity.

A lot of Kubota machines have a second plug connection in the seat switch wires. I have had the second connection unplug itself and cause me to scratch my head. Follow the seat switch wires back toward the body of the tractor and see if you are lucky enough for that to be the problem. If you defeat the switch at the switch, it would have no effect with the second connection open.

That idea of yours makes the most sense to me. I had no way to know that feature. I have the total shop manual and it says nada about that. My mower is at my other place but for sure I will check that out.

I have taken and either replaced or meter tested all of the safety switches and all should be good to go. Now that I know another switch may exist under the seat is worth a look.

No second switch unfortunately under my ZD28 switch. Got to scratching my head some more and looked at the brake switch (which I replaced) and saw that the brake lever was barely making switch contact. I removed the bracket holding the switch and bent it to where it would make better contact with the brake lever. This solved my problem. Thought I would share with you and anyone else reading this post.
