I'm starting a new thread on this topic; the info was in a thread with a different title.

Fuel leaked out of the tank sending unit whenever the tank was topped. This is a known problem with the original "press in" sending unit.

I have my fuel tank out now. Nothing real complicated but definitely a real pain. Here are the steps as best I can remember.

*Pull fuel hose off lower fuel filter and drain the tank
*Remove ROPS bar
*Remove seat
*Pull knobs off mower height control and PTO control
*Remove the lever grips
*Remove shuttle foot control pedal
*Remove floor mat
*Remove brackets under ROPS structure that hold up rear of fuel tank
*Remove battery cover
*Remove rear fenders
*Remove floor pan and center sheet metal
*Pop off all the fuel lines (might as well cut them, you wouldn't really put all this back together with old lines would you?) and the tank comes right out

Piece of cake

PS part number for the kit I ordered to seal up the sending unit is K2561-96140. I should arrive in a few days, hope it is the correct one

That is the correct part number. The new unit has cams that lock it into place. I've had mine on for a couple days, full of fuel, no leaks.

Scottz, I noticed just today the leaking of the fuel tank/gasket on my BX. Do you have to remove all the parts you stated just to replace the gasket or use the gasket kit to seal up the sending unit?

Thanks, Don

When putting floor pan and rear fender back, pay attention as to how they fit at the connection of the two. Fender goes on the inside of the bracket there and floor pan goes outside. I failed to do that right first attempt and it caused big time delay when assembling. Good luck.

No. The new kit comes with instructions that have you tip the rear of the fuel tank down to gain access to the sending unit. I can't remember what all they have you remove; I'll look at the instructions tomorrow. I elected to completely remove the fuel tank, but had to take all that stuff off to do so. Removing the fuel tank made installing the sending unit stay easy; your choice how you want to do it. Having everything apart I was also able to replace all the fuel lines. But that caused some problems; I've spent the last week trying to get the new lines to seal up. Turns out the OEM fuel line clamps got weak over time. I had to take it all apart again and use new hose clamps.

Thanks. Always nice to have these kinds of tips; but you might be denying me the opportunity to do things over two or three times.
