We have a newer kx 040-4 tier 4 mini ex. that keeps going into regen cycles. Took it to Kubota and they cant seem to find out whats wrong with it. They tell us to just keep using it though Im pretty sure its going to quit running. Has anyone had the same issue? does anyone know of a way around it?

Which engine and tier 4 stuff is in the mini excavator? Most of us with tier 4 engines have tractors, but there are at least 4 different basic setups among the different tractors so it is hard to tell what might be helpful without knowing which one it is most similar to. In general the regen frequency is reduced by keeping the exhaust hot, ie working the machine hard at high rpm.

In any case your dealer is giving you a less than helpful reply. All the tier 4 components are under warranty for 5 years so if need be you can get a new dpf filter etc. There is no known workaround.

Please keep us posted.

Ok, I answered some of those questions for myself, but raised another. Your engine is listed as D1803-CR-TE4 in a Kubota brochure which would make it very similar to an L3560 except yours has a turbo (the T in TE4). But D in the engine code typically means 3 cylinders, but your excavator is listed as 40hp with 4 cylinders.? In any case your system sounds like a newer version of an L4060, and at least it has the common rail fuel supply and an updated version of the software and display panel.

How often is it going into regen, how long does it last? Most of us with engines of that general size have the tractor regen about every 20 hrs, but we have seen a few shorter and some much longer when they are used harder. If it is going into regen seamlessly by itself, and finishes in less than 30 min, it may be fine, and you may be running it well.
