Is there a name for this type of wheel?

Obviously a 2 piece wheel

I don’t think its “split” unless the ring it on the inside ...?

Need to find a spare wheel ....
before I buy it
And drag it home

Take you picture to the tire shop and ask them if they will work on it. My understanding is the tire themselves are hard to find and few people will work on them.

They are not split rims if they are mobile home axles (which it appears to be). Mobile home wheel are 14.5" tires. Made that way to keep folks for using them for continuous use on the highway. It's often cheaper to find a place that sells/delivers the homes and buy the tire and wheel mounted up.

The washers under the nuts are tapered to clamp on the wheel.

You can replace the entire hub with more common setup and different wheels and use a more common tire.

Yup, mobile home wheels. But there are at least two sizes. (diameter) I bought a newly built 500 gal water trailer before I got my well, and ordered a spare with it. Towing it home, I noticed the trailer had a list to one side, so I drove back to the builder. Turns out the guy who put the wheels on had grabbed three wheels from a stack the size of a small house, and got two different sizes. He swapped the spare wheel, and then I had two the same size on the ground. Spare was taller then, but I never needed it anyway, so I was fine with the mismatch.

While they are popular on mobile homes, the wheel is a Dayton style wheel, usually those are 10+ ply tires and can carry a huge amount of weight, thats why an entire house can have 4 small tires under it. They are also usually a 'half' sized tire, 16.5 etc which identified a non locking 15 degree bead seat angle. This allows you to swap a tire onto the wheel without much effort or a tire machine. Any commercial truck / trailer should be able to find tires as well as craigslist. I bought 4 for $20 each that came from a single use bridge mover, had 100 tires on it.

Most likely it was a mobile home axle and Dexter used to say they were built for limited use with looser tolerances on the bearings and such and brake components riveted in instead of bolted etc. But for a utility trailer they are a heavy duty axle.

Yes if you look close on the original wheel picture it does say Dexter.
