Removing fenders & repairing leaking fuel tank sending unit BX2200

I'm trying to remove the fenders from my BX2200 so I can get to the fuel tank and repair the leaking sending unit. The control levers have a plastic grip on them that is bigger than the slot in the plastic piece on each fender. How do you get the these grips off without destroying them? Anybody done this?

Thanks

Pull really hard I think they are glued from the factory. I like to never got them off of my bx 2200 the only problem I had was the height control nob. Mine broke inside where it goes on the shaft. I saw something in another thread about using a heat gun on it to help getting it off.

I was able to reuse mine just have to watch them haven't glued them back yet. I have only had one slip back off. Might have to slip something think up from the bottom to break the glue lose while pulling.

As i posted earlier, heat them up, especially where they grip the rod. Mine came off easily. Next I i may need help removing the fuel tank,. since it is tight under some steel members.

Thanks, that worked. I warmed them up with a heat gun (be careful not to melt them) pulled hard and all 5 of them popped off.

I have my fuel tank out now. Nothing real complicated but definitely a real pain. Here are the steps as best I can remember.

*Pull fuel hose off lower fuel filter and drain the tank
*Remove ROPS bar
*Remove seat
*Pull knobs off mower height control and PTO control
*Remove the lever grips
*Remove shuttle foot control pedal
*Remove floor mat
*Remove brackets under ROPS structure that hold up rear of fuel tank
*Remove battery cover
*Remove rear fenders
*Remove floor pan and center sheet metal
*Pop off all the fuel lines (might as well cut them, you wouldn't really put all this back together with old lines would you?) and the tank comes right out

Piece of cake

PS part number for the kit I ordered to seal up the sending unit is K2561-96140. I should arrive in a few days, hope it is the correct one.

Great. I have my tank off and will be either cleaning inside myself or see if the tractor dealer can do it better (at 210 Hours). Had some intermittent stoppages, seems maybe crud in tank. Probably algae. Have used filtered fuel with anti "bug" treatment also. Hope I can complete the job with no hardware left over. Have had no leakage at the sending unit. Gasket had no "glue" on it.

I changed all my fuel lines today; another pain in the.. I'm beginning to understand compact tractors are difficult to work on because they are.....compact.

This tractor has a small header tank inside the left frame rail just forward of the rear wheel. It has five fuel lines going into it. The only way to replace them was to remove the header tank. It takes about 12' of 5/16 line, 4' of 3/16 line, and some real small stuff up on the engine.

drill a 1/16 or similar size hole in the top of the rubber grips. Now use an air blow gun to blow air into the hole while you pull up on the grip. They usually fall right off. and then they go back on in the same manner.
