I have an old (1978 vintage) B7100DT with the thermosiphon coolant system, which works fine. I was reading a thread here about somebody upgrading their b7100 to a D850 engine and wondered if a water pump for the D750-B/D850 engine would fit. I realize the dynamo would have to be relocated and radiator fittings/hoses adjustments made. Or is this one of those "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" things? Thoughts? Thanks

SS,

to get that right, you have to have some re-plumbing first a pump will be needed and a way to cut the pump on and off - you do not want it running from cold.........so either a thermostat or some kinda thermo relay.

Hose is typically smaller.........

and lastly - IF you keep your radiator clean and front screen clean - should not be a problem.

now make sure you dont get on the wrong side of 50-50 antifreeze, I think they say it works better at 70-30 water/ freeze - Make sure the system is full BUT not to the top of the radiator. any air will cause it NOT to flow !!!

Dont fix it ..............it works fine - !

Agree with 85Hokie, the system works fine as it is no advantage or need to change it. ;)

I agree with the posters above. Just keep the radiator clean and it will be fine.

I believe the front engine covers are different between the thermosyphon and water pump models.
