I am replacing a clutch on my f2000 and I am confused. When I put the input shaft up to the flywheel it is not even close to reaching the pilot bushing in the end of the crank. Is something wrong here or is the pilot bushing in the end of the crank just not used? Is it possible that there should be a pilot bushing pressed into the flywheel instead? Based on some research the pictures of the flywheel and input shaft look just like mine.

One other thing, when removing the clutch I found shavings of metal that appear to be a bushing from somewhere. They were between the clutch plate and flywheel. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Post pictures of what you have.

Yes the Shaft should reach the pilot bushing.

Here is a picture of the shaft going through the flywheel as far as it can go, notice the tip does not come out of the backside where it would ride on the pilot bushing.

The second picture is of the propeller shaft.

Based on this picture of a F2400 mower it appears as though there is supposed to be a pilot bushing pressed into the flywheel. That would make sense to me based at the parts I pulled off of mine. I assume I had a bushing in there at one point and it fell out, hence the pieces I found behind the clutch disc.

You have the wrong propeller shaft, That shaft is for a F2100, or F2400, The F2000 Shaft has a longer tip.

Here is a picture of it:

Now the F2000 Propeller shaft is about impossible to find and when you search the part # it comes up with a clutch plate, not the propeller shaft.

You didn't show a picture of the other side of your flywheel so I can't tell if it's a F2000 flywheel or a F2100, F2400 flywheel, and like you noted the F2100 and F2400 have a pilot bushing in the flywheel and not in the crank. ;)

That makes perfect sense. I ended up machining an oillite bushing on my lathe and pressing it into the flywheel. Put it all back together and its working perfectly. I would imagine if the F2400 can put a pilot bushing in the flywheel I could do the same. Thanks for letting me know about the correct shaft.

So I think I have the same issue
I don't have the ability to make a bushing but here are some pictures
First is the motor side
Second is the clutch, shaft with flywheel
Third is shaft

I just bought this off eBay I'm hoping it is the reason when I engage the clutch I get a strange tick from the clutch area

There is yellow bushings in there both the flywheel and the motor side
I can't find a listing for any bushings in any diagrams

Your posted pictures are too large and flood the pages, smaller pictures would help keep postings from pushing them out.

Well, I think I've discovered the differences, they look like they used parts for a F2100 in a F2000.

The shaft for the F2000 has a long lead on the propeller shaft for the pilot bushing to be in the crank.

Where the shaft for the F2100 has a short lead on the propeller shaft to engage the flywheel and adapter.

So are u thinking they used the 2100 flywheel and shaft on it
Should I still put the longer shaft in
The clutch release was all worn out like the shaft was bouncing around
but if they are both for the 2100 I would think it wouldn't be messing up

I'm at a loss after seeing those pictures

Using the F2000 won't hurt if you make sure the bushing is in the crank and you might possibly need to remove part number 90 and the bushing out of the flywheel if the longer shaft hits it. ;)
