Guys, when I dump or curl the bucket on my B2920, hydraulic fluid leaks out. Remove the cap from the one that leaks and half of the metal spool rod falls out. Dealer tells me I have to buy a $900 new loader valve. Is that true?

Yes the spools are not individually replaceable, because they are machined to match the block, or visa versa.

But post a picture of what you have, as there is some spools that are multi piece, and it might not be "broken".

There are aftermarket spools that are much cheaper and might work for you.

I thought I had taken a picture of the broken spool when I had it apart. It does not appear to be on my phone. The parts diagram shows the spool has a threaded section. I am certain it did not just come apart, but rather sheared.

Any links or info on how to find these aftermarket spools? I can't believe this is not a replaceable part from K, and I also cannot understand how this breakage occurred. Keep in mind this is a 2013 machine; I bought it with a loader valve but without a loader. I only installed a loader in summer of 2016, so until that point the loader joystick remained "locked" and not used. This should not have happened in my opinion. My B series has less than 600 hours on it.

Couple of other questions...

When I took the threaded caps off the spools, the area of the spring had kind of a waxy, white, viscous fluid which stuck to the spring and inside the cap. Seemed like grease. Would that be normal? Or is the fluid not in great shape?

I locked the loader, but as I continue to use the 3-point hitch attachments, fluid still seems to be leaking from that spool. Is that normal and expected?

My 3-point hitch control seems to be a little unsmooth - it will raise part way, then you need additional input on the lever and it goes the rest of the way. It is a quarter-inching valve but when the tractor was a little younger it did not behave in this way.

A couple of years ago I needed to replace the hyd valve on my L305. The original was no longer available. I found a joystick control that the valve could be mounted in any position needed for the hyd lines to work. It worked nice. two spool with float, and the price was around $300. Might be less cost now! I could look up the model number if you want to check it out.

Thanks D2...I saw some aftermarket options but it appeared in every case I'd have to relocate the loader joystick, or switch to two sticks.

I was hoping to find just a spool in the aftermarket, but apparently that isn't going to happen.

I'll probably just have to suck up the $900 cost and be pretty grumpy for awhile.

Yea sorry, I forgot your is integrated into the tractor, yea very little can be done besides a new valve.

The hydraulics goes through the FEL Spool before it gets to the three point spool, that's the reason for the leaking and poor three point performance.

I would get it fixed ASAP.

Yeah, that's what I figured.

I think the aftermarket options would work if the loader valve was mounted to the loader arms, right?
