I just got an L345 that has low oil pressure. Starts off around 40 psi once warm it starts to drop 25 when reved up and 10-20 at idle . I know there a chance it could be the cam plug is out. I’m think there maybe a spring valve that could cause it too. It’s close to where the oil filter is. Would that have any thing to do with it?

Does that spring and ball effect oil pressure cause that would be a easy fix to try before checking the cam for the plug.

it could, but not very likely, that's a high pressure relief setup.

Trying to decide on should I get a oil pump while I’m in the timing case. It would suck to get in there and find out it’s not missing the plug and it could be the pump and not have it on hand.

Hello
How many hours are on your tractor? If your are getting 40 psi I would not think the cam plug is at fault. Is it possible you just have lose bearings. When the cam plug comes out you normally see under 7 psi at idle.

I think the cam will come out the front cover and the oil pump is under the oil pan so they are different tasks I believe.

There was one person that didn’t remove the front cover but drilled through it to access the end of the cam shaft then put a pipe plug in the cover.

Hopefully you can locate that thread and someone who knows for sure will confirm they are separate tasks

I'll agree with Lance, sounds more like a bearing issue than a plug issue.

I've also never seen a bad oil pump, they just don't wear out.

The oil pump is under the front gear case so if you wanted to change it time to do it is when you pull the gear case cover.

I would suggest you drop the pan and check the rod bearings and the pickup screen and seal.
You can't check the main bearings without pulling the entire motor apart.
