In a 1990 L2050DT is one of the forks suppose to be stationary? It does not slide like the others.
I would say no, but your going to have to give a lot more information to get a better answer.
Info like what was it doing or not doing for you to tear into it?

It got hung up in gear and when I went into it, I saw that I broke a fork. I do not know much about it. The other 3 forks do slide back and forth.

I am new to this site and am not sure how it all works, so I might not be replying correctly.
The tractor got hung up in gear and I could only go forward in 4th gear. It seemed to go into reverse but when I let out the clutch it would stall. When I opened up the gear box I saw that one of the forks was broken.I took the broken one off its shaft. That is when I noticed that one of the other forks did not slide back and forth on its shaft. I could not see any way that it was fixed to it. I don't know what gear it is for, but it does seem fixed.

Did a bit more looking and found that the bearing ball was stuck and would not allow that shaft to slide. Cleaned it all up and it works. Thanks
