oil in starter

i just bought a used kubota L185DT used it for less than hr. and would not start so i took the starter to have tested and it is bad. it had a lot of oil in it is this nomal. if not what would cause this thanks.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the orange tractor. :D


Well you may have a few problems with a tractor but which one has none???

Anyway the only way to get oil in the starter that I can think of is to have a rear crankshaft seal leaking or the transmission front seal leaking.
How are your fluid levels?


MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE RADIATOR FULL AT ALL TIMES OR YOU WILL BLOW A CYLINDER HEAD ! ! ! ! !

There is no water pump or thermstat in that setup you know. ;)

well i took the starter to be rebuilt cuz kubota wanted $500 for a new one. i hope this weekend i will get back to camp put it in and see what happens. right now the the tractor is in the woods at my hunting camp in northern maine. if it don't start i don't know what to do next. thank you for your reply.
