Hi everyone
Having just fitted a new head gasket to my D1402 3 cylinder tractor I have been given various advice on when to re torque the head bolts. Been told after 2 hrs of use and then every 2 years. Another suggested after 2 months and lastly I was advised after 12 months.

Thank you in anticipation ***128512;

You should not have to Re-torque the cylinder head after assembly, you will want to check the valves after a while like 50 hours. ;)

As wolfman said, there is no reason to retorque. In the olden days head gaskets needed retorquing, but technical advancements in gaskests make it unnecessary.

Thanks for your repies again***128512; The guy I got the gasket off said it was an older style gasket and he showed me a new type of gasket for a different tractor that was made of 3 sheets of steel with the top one being concave the bottom one being convex and the middle one flat. Just been out slashing on my hillside and heaps of power now...happy chappie

I just replaced the head gasket on my g1800 with a 3 cylinder diesel. The service manual said to
re-torque after 30 minutes of run time.

Yes but how long ago was the service manual written and how newly re-designed is the head gasket?

Was thinking the same thing as coachgeo

I dont think any harm can be done by re-torquing a cylinder head.

Think the factory runs enine for thirty minutes, takes it apart and retorques head bolts? I think not.
