My ZG23 mower won't maintain battery charge.
Mower wouldn't start. Charged battery, and mower started. mowed 3 acres without any problems. A week later, tried to start it again but battery was low. Removed battery and had it tested. They advised me the battery was reading only 9 volts. recharged battery, cleaned all connections and installed. Started mower, and while running, removed positive wire lead to battery. Mower died immediately.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

1) Check for good connections to ground at battery cable and harness grounds.

2) Check alternator output for battery charging. Getting both voltage and current out?

3) Battery marginal - will take a charge but rapidly discharges just sitting.

Not a lot more to worry about.

9 volts is at least one dead cell. They shoukd have sold you a battery. Charge battery, let sit disconnected for a day. Voltage should be above 12 if its any good at all
