So I wash washing the winters worth of cow mud off the L3000 this afternoon and I guess the water pressure blew the sight glass off.

Seems pretty straight forward to replace but thought I would ask if anyone else had done it and had any do's or don'ts to pass along.

I just hope my dealer has switched to spring time hrs and is open on Saturday.

Bulldog -

No experience, but my recollection is they just snap in easily, and some silicone sealant top/bottom is all it takes.

Just one of the many things I learned here on OTT.

I hope your dealer has them in stock....

Good luck!

RCW, that's what I was thinking I had read about them. Just got back from my dealer and they had 3 in stock. I bought 2 just in case. Since the original lasted almost 20 years the 2nd one may be lost before it's used but I would have been in trouble this winter if it had broke during feeding time.

Thanks for the response old buddy.

I wish my 3000 had a dip stick but the site glass was a easy fix. The trip to the dealer took longer than the repair did.

I'm the opposite, I'd like the M's to have the sight glass versus the dipsticks. I find the dipsticks hard to read. In fact I've considered removing the rear covers and machining them to accept a bulkhead fitting (sight glass)

I punched a hole in the upper oil level and low oil level in the dipstick in my car, makes it easier to read the level as the oil bridges the hole when full. Took my Roper Whitney compound leverage hand punch and punched the holes.

Having never seen one, does the sight glass just snap in and what keeps it from leaking? Does it come with a 'o' ring?

Site glass is all one unit with rubber seal about 1/4" wide or so. It just pushes in and that's it. I did put a small bead of rtv on mine but don't know if it's needed or not. Made me feel better though.

Does the OP have any concern about water from the high pressure hose contaminating the hydraulic fluid?

Not certain how much time elapsed from when the sight glass was discovered to be missing and pressure washing stopped.

Bulldog - so glad your dealer had them.

I would've gotten 2 also!

I mowed grass for about 4 hrs and didn't have anything leak so I guess it's fixed.

All I need now is some more warm weather to dry things up a little more so I can hit the hay fields. Funny, in the fall I'm sick of seeing hay on the ground and right now I can't wait to get started.
