    Sorry it has been awhile, but it looks like @mikester was absolutely correct that the arms were twisted. Unfortunately not the best case scenario, but as he said no one was hurt and things can be fixed.

    Well I have looked at all of that cross piece and nothing seems twisted, no chipped paint or broken welds. Everywhere I put a level comes out fine.
