I quit winter - so I did the maintenance already. My blower is a BX2755HD ... this may be the same for many other models. Hope it helps someone. - James

I think you might be looking at the tail gate latch mechanism. When you start to dump, that latch drops to allow the tailgate to swing open with gravity. When you lower the dump box to the down position the latch pops back up to prevent the gate from opening while moving. Since I don't have any...
