What to Be Looking for on a G1800?

I purchased a G1800-S about a year ago at an online equipment auction, sight unseen. My tractor had just under 1200 hours on it when I got it (with 54" deck) for $900 (plus a 5% buyer's commission). The biggest reason I went shopping was that the wife loves this machine. We had used a former...

    Pole barn construction

Going to try something here. We'll see what the response is. I spent 4 summers after HS, building pole barns for a national company, Wick Ag Buildings, Mazomanie, WI. These were precut packages, typically arriving in two flat-bed semi-truck loads. At the end of that time of my life, I was...

    Shop/Shed 30x60

Suggest you add "wind bracing". These are 2x4s running from the peak at the end walls diagonally down to the eaves. Four of them. Typically nailed to the bottoms of the purlins with their ends butting against the end rafter or a truss. [Cut angles on the ends of the 2x4s to match.] Without wind...

    2502 (later turbo) vs 3902

@PoTreeBoy: Yeah, Privet Hedge is the same as the Hedge Laurel on my list. Lots of names for the same beast. It's benign, easy to contain. I left a couple of clumps to hide my compost pile from the house. I did not put Japanese stiltgrass on my list. I guess, because I don't really have a...

    2502 (later turbo) vs 3902

Love your dream, OrangeGee. Somewhat off-topic, but here goes: I would encourage you to survey your property for the presence of "exotic invasives", and familiarize yourself with them. Because, if they are present, and you create a light source for them (by your clearing activities), they...

L2501 Turbo: A Journey Defined - The tractor, The comparison, The modification, The results...

Hey, Mike, been following your odyssey, and YES, EGT is a major concern. Sustained loads at >1000F can easily melt pistons. And, just a few continuous minutes will do it. The most obvious 'first step' in dealing with that issue is to impose an intercooler. At that auction I was at last week...

    TG1860 Mower with PTO Problems

Kind of makes me wonder: Why don't these RC deck gearboxes have vents? Seems like, when the oil heats up during use, the air pressure inside the gearbox would increase, tending to force oil past the seals. I mean, the axle differentials and the transfer case in my truck are vented.... -Paul

    L2550 at auction

Went to an estate sale last Friday, specifically to watch this Kubota L2550 4WD sell: https://www.proxibid.com/Kubota-L2550-Loader-Tractor/lotInformation/77334449 The estate was that of a hoarder, who ran out of money to pay the rent to store his stuff. Nothing in the sale had been used in...

Converting mower decks: RCK54TG to RC54-G20

Thanks, Justin. Good to know. I do not have the deck load carrying springs on my G1800 (it's an early build). When I mow up to the edges of the flower beds, I have to 'float' the deck over the stone mulch, or the front deck wheel will dig in. Not ideal, but it's a very small part of the total...

    Need Bridge (deck) input

When I was a kid on the farm, the county was re-decking some old bridges, and there were surplus "bridge planks" to be had for salvage. These were rough-sawn, creosoted oak 3x10 (12?), 16 to 20 feet long. We had a few of these around for various projects... Is there a used lumber dealer in...

    RCK60b-23bx Gearbox Rebuild

Oh, wow. Tough situation. The shaft is probably still usable, with some cleaning up. Can you tease the bevel gear off the inner end of the shaft? I was looking at one of those bearings (new) that I have in stock. That bearing has 9 balls in it, and they're "caged" to hold them in place. Dave...

    RCK60b-23bx Gearbox Rebuild

This diagram might help: I would guess that your problem is the snap ring (150). Pull the seal (160), and you should see it. You may also need to pull the outer bearing (140) before you can pull the shaft (110). Then, the bevel gear will fall into the case. Hope that helps! -Paul

    G1800/G1900 PTO belt replacement

Hi Folks, Wifey hit the dog chain when mowing a couple of weeks ago, stalling the mower deck before the engine bogged and died. The incident flat-spotted the mower drive belt, and wrecked the PTO drive belts: These were Kubota belts and I priced them out, coming to think that they were...

    Cross bracing floor joists

Disclaimer: I've never done what you are attempting (retrofitting floor joist X-braces). I've seen some pretty crappy X-bracing jobs done with scrap 1-by...And, they tend to squeak. From your image, it looks like you could cut off the top ends of the metal braces (part with two nails through...

    Equipment shed thoughts/ideas?

Check zoning rules in your township/municipality. Around here, as long as the shed is <1000 square feet, you're exempt from grading/drainage field requirements, and no building inspections are required. That's a HUGE cost savings. The shed I've been planning will go on a slope, using the uphill...
