BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

I had decided to "take the plunge" and take the control valve to a hydraulic repair shop not too far away. After calling this morning, the guy who did that kind of repair has retired and they have no one to replace him! I haven't called the dealer yet but I haven't been overly impressed with...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

I'll give the rotation a try but can't get to it for a couple of days. I don't believe I would use a hammer to hit the spool, however. I have viewed the cotter pin that attaches the spool to the lever. Perhaps if I have a magnet near, it won't fly anywhere. Should be an interesting exercise...

Pneumatic hammer sounds like a good idea but I don't have access to one of those. I've actually been researching how to disassemble the swing spool valve since the "plunger for that valve will pull up but not push down. The up motion moves the boom to the right, which works well; the down...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

No, there is not a lock or kiddie guard. The spool rod for the swing action pulls up when lever is moved to the right, but will not go down when moved to the left. I have removed the cover even though that removal is not necessary to see the spool movement...or lack of movement in this case...

Perhaps the problem is not the cylinder after all! Here's a diagram of the swing control valve: I'm looking at the WSM for directions to see if this is something I want to tackle. I had considered buying a new valve! NOT! $733+ Oh my. I'd better learn how to repair. :-) TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

In the interim of all of these ideas, I have another question. Today, I used the backhoe to dig a small hole without needing to swing the boom to the left. As I examined more closely at the control valve set up, the "plunger" to swing the boom left will not depress. Could the relief valve be...

Cutting the pin may/may not work. If I cut the pin, it will still be holding the cylinder to the frame so I don't know how I could get to it to get it out any better. I may be thinking of this incorrectly, but for the moment, I'm going to try to put the acetone/oil mix on frequently for a...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

I'm for this! I have been putting the 50/50 mix on from time to time but not faithfully, as you suggest. I'll start today. From another point of view...it couldn't hurt, especially as I mull other solutions. It's going to get cold for the next couple of weeks so this will be a good time to...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

The diagram is a little confusing but it may be the pin. My actual visual is from the other side and from this diagram, with no platform or boom, I can't visualize. That said, I am not blonde. :) I'll go to Messick's to see the collection of parts diagrams. TG Edited: Went to Messick's...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Thanks for the good info, Bill. No, I hadn't bought one yet since I wasn't clear on dimensions. Glad I didn't jump too soon. I had also thought about trying to find a rental tool. There are some places that do that, so that's an option to follow. Drilling a hole in that platform is also...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

The pin is 3/4" diameter. My concern is for the width of the mouth of the C-clamp. That is the distance needed. I've been trying to find the dimensions of the ball joint presses available. Would you know the dimensions? I see a 9" clamp on Amazon (which I hate to use) for $109. I'd be...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

DrankTheOrangeKoolaid, this has possibilities! I'm going to look into this. Would I have the umphh with a breaker bar? Maybe/maybe no. But, it would be worth a try. I'll need to measure the pin length to see if the clamp is wide enough. Thanks so much. TG

First, I say, "Ouch." Then I say, "That was a dumb thing to do."

I'm not sure what you mean and I was not especially clear either. My meaning was that I do not use vulgar language. Maybe that will help with my meaning. TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Thanks for all the replies. First, I would not have known what BFH means; my vocabulary does not entertain such. Second, it is the pin for the CYLINDER, not for the frame. Third, it is not possible to use a drift since the clearance above the pin is about 8". Subtract the length of the...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Did you mean that you used a punch slightly SMALLER than the pin? I have no way to get the tractor higher than the stabilizer will lift it so the bottom "hits" are not full strength, so to speak. The platform of the backhoe prevents access from the top so I can't get enough force to do...

Good thought, but no. I have removed the bolt.

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

OK, finally back at it. Here's a picture of the pin location...just behind the right rear tire with platform above making it difficult to hammer the pin down and difficult to hammer the pin up due to the reduced space. I lowered the right stabilizer arm to lift the right side of the tractor...

Two yes's. I can easily get the other end of the pin out. And, yes, I thought a picture would be helpful. It's such a pain. Have to take the picture with the phone; download the picture to computer; then I can post here. But, to get such outstanding help, I need to put in a bit of effort...
