    Engine knocking

Cheryl, I'm glad you got your tractor up and running again. Plus, I enjoyed reading through the suggestions, especially the suggestion of "water worm." I thought it may be a good idea to have one of these so I did some searching. The only thing I found called water worm was from a company in...

    10W 30 oil

Good to know, Mr. 85Hokie. Hope my little BX will forgive me if I promise to do better in the future. :-) TG

    10W 30 oil

Yep...there it was! Guess it didn't register as I didn't know...until now...that oil had classifications! Learn something every day. Thanks for teaching me today. TG

    10W 30 oil

I like to check in here every once in a while to learn something or, in the outside chance, I may have a suggestion to someone's query. But, today, after reading about engine oil, I immediately went to the WSM where there is no mention of diesel engine oil. I have a 2004 BX23D MLB and the...

Question about control valve spring lubrication

Thank you for this info. I wonder what I had originally seen? Should've been more observant! :) I was too happy about getting the control valve apart! TG

Question about control valve spring lubrication

This question is being posted as a main thread since the original thread about a BT600 boom would not swing left but would swing right has reached conclusion. That issue has been repaired. But, in the process, I have a question about the spring lubrication within the valves. As I...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Question on the oil for the spring in the cap. I don't see any information as to whether there is oil held in these caps to keep the spring lubricated. Seems like a good idea. I did not add oil into the cap prior to reinstalling. I can always go back and fix it. TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

You are hereby awarded the Medal of Honor which in the tractor community is a greasy salute :D I humbly accept and return with a greasy salute of my own.

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Yes, I should have done that. But...I didn't. It was in my mind that if one had sediment, probably the others would, too. Today, I was looking forward to finding out if the main problem was solved. Now that I see how to remove all the components, I may decide to do that, especially now that...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

No more calls...we have a winner! Apparently it was the sediment, keeping the spring from compressing totally. Personally, I can't believe it but, nonetheless, I feel like a million dollars...all green and wrinkled :) As woodman said, I have learned a great deal. Before long, I may...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Update. Swing control valve disassembled. Spool removed and inspected. I have seen nothing remarkable...that is to say, all parts look OK, spring not broken, etc. The only thing that caught me off guard was the amount of "sediment" in the cap. It appeared to be at the bottom of the spring...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Just popping in with progress so far. I have everything disconnected from the control valve and it is ready to be unbolted from the backhoe metal. I will get someone to finish removing the bolts while I hold the control valve. I don't know how heavy it is and would prefer to be safe and...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Your idea seems good. But, since the swing works when its hoses are attached to a different control valve, it seems to me that it is that one valve only. The levers seem ok. Thanks for the thought. TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

That's exactly what I have seen on the diagram and plan to do. Sounds easy...will I be fooled again?! Thanks for the confirmation. TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

No, there is not full travel if you are talking about the spool itself going up and down. Or, the joy stick lever attached to the spool. Either one is the same...not full travel. The spool lifts up when the joy stick lever is pushed to the right but the spool will not go down when pushed to...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

OK...a little progress is better than no progress at all. I switched out the swing hoses and boom hoses. The swing worked just fine but the boom didn't, so now I am certain it is not the cylinder. I also removed the lever support plate so I could access the pins for the spool. I removed...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

Gentlemen, the dialogue in this thread is priceless! Thanks for allowing me to smile. While not necessary, may I contribute a bit of my experiences. My father was a DIY in years gone by. Because of his interest, it was easy for me to learn from him. Some girls/women have no interest and...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

OK, I see how that works. I'll have to look at the "tower" on this BX23. I'm not certain it can be removed as this guy has done with his tower. If it could be removed, it would be a lot easier...I would think. Then, I could remove the swing valve, bring it inside onto a flat surface and...

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

You are right, TOH. In looking at the backhoe earlier today, the whole control valve needs to be removed since there is not room to remove the bolts that hold all the valves together. I continue to contemplate. TG

BT600 backhoe swings right but not back left

In looking at the exploded view of the entire control panel, it appears that the swing valve (#140) is nearest to the head of the bolt instead of at the bolt end. This would make it hard to remove just the swing valve, I would think. Am I seeing this correctly? Here's the exploded view:
