Hooked up the tank with the suction hose and brought the queen outside for some sea trials. I backed it up to a ditch and lower it all the way to check the hose length. I'm going to let it pass, but another two inches would have been better. I'm ordering a hose clamp to clamp it near the link to...

HST whine + tinnitus = selling my brand new L2501?

Has anyone ever tried a rubber or dense foam mat on top of the tranny? I know what you're talking about with the whine. It seems to be at just the right frequency to aggravate tinnitus. I was thinking about some sound deadening foam between your feet on top of the tranny. Seems to be where most...

I'm just north of that city with an NFL team, I forget what they're called. (Just kidding!) Escanaba is where I grew up.

Modified the torque arm to accommodate the large QC for the suction side. Installed the tank and tack welded it in the best position I could for the tight clearance. Welded the fitting on permanent and got the hose to the pump all set.

    Stump grinder build

I might have gotten a little carried away by using 3/4" plate for the upper link, but I'd rather over build than under build. Machined the holes for a press fit on the ball ends and tig welded them in. Hooked it up for a test fit and raised it all the way up. Looks like we have a program!

    Stump grinder build

I redesigned the torque arm so it would stick up higher and provide a spot to weld on the 1-1/4 street elbow that I made. Its at the point now where I'm waiting on the custom upper link so I can raise it all the way up and locate the fitting. This is where my giant quick coupler for the suction...

    Stump grinder build

One of the themes for this build seems to be making fittings. I needed a 1-1/4 NPT street elbow that I could weld to my new torque arm for the quick connect to the pump inlet. Found a piece of 2" cold rolled square and proceeded to machine and then tig weld the male threads.

After staring at it for awhile, I realized that I needed to raise the upper link attachment point. It was going to have to be stronger than the original formed angles, so I decided a backing plate out of 1/2" plus welding on 3/8" plate for the pin holes would be a good place to start. Now the...

Installed the notch in the oil tank for clearance on the upper link. When I tried it on the tractor, I didn't like the angle of the tank in the raised position. So this started a whole domino effect of changes that I'll be posting as the week goes on.

    Daily Chuckle

Man walks in a bar with bag and sets it down and orders a beer. He reaches into the bag and pulls out a small piano and seat and sets it on the bar. Then he reaches into the bag and pulls out this little man in a tuxedo and sets him on the seat. He proceeds to start playing a beautiful song on...

    Stump grinder build

Couple of pictures with the unit raised. I'm going to install a notch for clearance of the upper link in the tank this weekend. Then when I can raise it all the way up, I'll start playing with the hose routing on the suction side. Going to be a challenge for sure because of the limited space to...

    Stump grinder build

I pretty much take these things in stride. Stuff like this happens in everyone of my builds. I guess I've learned to laugh at myself and I don't mind sharing a chuckle with y'all.;)

I have two lines of thought on this. One is to use quick disconnects so the pump can go on first with nothing in the way. The second thought is having the pump sit in a 'cradle' on the front of the oil tank at about PTO shaft height. Back the tractor up close and then slide it from the cradle...

    B7100 FEL (& 40T press brake)

I like your press brake! What are you using to power it? Looks like a couple of pneumatic over hydraulic pumps. I built a leaf brake years ago with that type of pump and it is still working today with no issues. Mind if I make a suggestion to improve your brake? Installing a truss rod on the...

I would have sworn the instructions for the fill neck said five holes, but no, it did say six when I went back and looked at it. So, I made up an adapter plate and welded this on over the opening. Probably better this way anyway, the sealing surface on the adapter is flatter than the tank top...
